wow interesting info there.  I would not have expected the beam shape to change with a mode hop.

Yeah, the spots can get completelly distorted when you hit a kink. With some diodes it's more, with others less noticable. In some cases i even saw two spots, the spot seems to start moving off to a side, but is actually separating into a larger and a smaller spot..

But i was wrong about how a diode "climbs out" of a kink.. Zom-B showed me some of his test results, and it would seem that the kinks move up in current, as the diode warms up. The kink starts higher on a hot diode and lower on a cold diode.

So when a diode is in a kink and warms up, it's the kink that climbs up. Then the diode is suddenly at the power it would have at that current, if there was no kink there - as if the graph continued on straight = much higher power.

So that means the diode should be set to a lower current, so that it is out of the kink both warm and cold. If it's set just above it, the kink will climb and the diode will fall in and the power drop.

should I order THE 6X'S for [highlight]round 3[/highlight]? they cost me extra monies because the minimum order is 100 pcs, but i can take a fall for the community.

it everyone's lucky day. The supplier is being an ass, and will not sell me 35 units. he raised the price another 2 dollars too!!! so we need MORE ORDERS FOR ROUND 3!!!
