GGW-H20L 6x Sled GB!!! THE EPIC GB THREAD LAWL!!!

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

Igor I have a diode which keeps climbing in power, in fact the one in my sonar II build does that too. The diode I am talking about has a snapped pin, to which I brutally soldered the wires, there is solder all over the place yet it still works (thank god for separate ground :)) hehe

Anyways u need it...its yours. PM me if your interested. It was installed in my kryton v2 with a groove driver and the power just kept on climbing.

Thanks
brtaman

We will make it run 450mW CW and beyond. 8-) ;D

That's nothing.. Dave will start the graph at 750mW...  :P

Oh right, i keep forgetting.. You have a meter now.. ;)

I am sure i will find another such diode among the PHRs i have here. If the theory is correct, it's actually much more likelly in PHRs, since they have higher losses in plastic lenses...

But if you really want to get rid of it, sure.. It's already half dead from what you're saying.. So why not use it for testing..

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

Yeah exactly I have no use for it, I was thinking of running it into the ground, but it would be more beneficial, if took upon yourself the brutal torturing process with your fancy diode analyzer and everything. ;)

I can send it out tomorrow probably, ill leave it in the top of the aixiz housing as it s fragile enough already, just don't make any bad comments about the state it and the housing is in :P, but I am keeping the lens cause they all seem to be turning foggy in the center, wonder why ::) -just pm me the address again.

Oh and yeah the LPM is working great [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Still on my first set of batteries the ones I got from DX kinda suck (one of them) so I am using standard 9v duracells and they just keep on going and going and going (wait was that energizer!?).

Thanks

[quote author=Ace82 link=1223438970/960#966 date=1227112760]The funny thing is that this one LEDified while it was lasing, I've never seen that before. And, it's not 100% LEDified, as it still projects about 2mW of violet light but it doesn't seem coherent, and it doesn't lase.

As unflinchingly cruel as I have been to these poor innocent PHR diodes, I have seen several "die" while on. The <5mW output after "death" is also not uncommon.

Peace,
dave

I've also seen two die while lasing. In fact, the only ones I have that died from age/wear, are the same two. I've never had one dying at cold start (yet)

damn you guys talk a lot!!!

2 pages a day now!!!

;D ;D ;D ;D

yea so i figured my meter does all kinds of postage EXCEPT international express. So i printed out postage form paypal. the test diode is now officially a $110 diode. :D :D

amk

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

I think this depends on how you use them.... I have seen some die while lasing in the 20 or so, which i killed so far.

But often, i used them like 20 minutes continuously, so the damage accumulates, but they are warmed up and the power is lower, which prevents them from dying on the spot. Then i turn them off, and they cool off, and at powerup the power is so high, that it pushes them over the edge..

Same thing happened, when i force cooled them to 20°C, to compare to the initial reading and check for degradation..
After seeing that repeatedly and realizing what was going on, i started carrying older lasers with degraded diodes in my pocket to pre-warm them..  ;D

Please tell me, that the package doesn't say so anywhere inside or out?  :-/

Did you include the "invoice" i sent you?

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

uh oh international express does not fly under Igort's govt's radar.

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

Express always gets mollested. They think if the shipping is expensive, the contents have to be expensive too!
That's why it needs to have a convincing invoice and matching declaration.

Amk, you still haven't answered what the "officially $110 diode" means. Please tell me you did not declare it as such and that the invoice i sent you is included.. :-/

I think I remember reading earlier in this thread that he paid ~$80 for the first diode for testing purposes. I'm guessing he paid about $30 shipping out of pocket to get it to you, Igor. Therefore it's a $110 diode...

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

lol yea I wouldnt want to lose a 110 dollar diode. its marked on the package EXACTLY as it is on the invoice.

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

Good.. Thanks! That's gonna make my life a lot easier.

Otherwise, i just found a diode that climbs in power with heat. And the answer was much simpler, than i thought.

I made a laser yesterday, and it measured in at 152mW. It had a really flat beam. (hint, hint)
Today it measured 148mW, and i thought it was degrading rapidly. But then i let it run for a few minutes, and the power returned to 152mW, and then suddenly "shot up" to 164mW.

I checked the wavelength by shining it through a yellow filter, and it was definitelly higher than before, but the filter also showed something else. The beam was suddenly much rounder.

So i did some measurements, to determine how much the losses in the acrylic lens change..

At 20°C:
Acrylic lens = 148mW (19.56% losses compared to N. lens)
Nichia lens = 184mW (24.3% increase compared to acrylics)

At 30°C:
Acrylc lens = 165mW (17.5% losses compared to N. lens)
Nichia lens = 200mW (21.2% increase compared to acrylics)

Most of the power climb came from the diode being just above a kink and climbing out as it warmed up.. A small part was from the wavelength drifting up and the beam profile improoving.

So no big mystery here. For the wavelength to be exclusivelly responsible, the diode would have to have a really short wavelength, and drift a lot.

If your power with a 4x (or a PHR for that matter) is climbing, you have it set in a kink. A small current increase would bring it out permanently, the power would be much higher and stable. A reduced current to the point below the kink would also result in a stable power, which could even be slightly higher, than when the diode is in the kink.

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

wow interesting info there. I would not have expected the beam shape to change with a mode hop. Can't wait to try your lenses!

Re: 12x Blu-ray SLEDS GB! 450mW!! Sanyo 12x!!

DrLava -- Good to see you back here  ;D
You should have a big package Monday -- Priority mail.

Are we still insisting that this sled is a 12x?
