Genesis Project: my RGB White Rainbow - Proof of Concept build.

Yes...A micro DUAL voltage power supply...Hmmmm ???? Well....you May NOT find one with both 5VDC and 12VDC....BUT...they sell very small adjustable units...SO....you may have to compromise...and buy two (2) micro VDC converters......and fix them to a common Ally plate....and then bolt that to whatever flat area you can. Set one for 5VDC....and the other for 12VDC.

I am a fan of two(2) things...
1) Off the shelf components.
2) Modularity.

To me...

Off the shelf means you can get maybe 90% of what you need....and modify the rest to fit your demands.

Modularity....well...this helps in building and later in upgrading/servicing. Sometimes...in a complex build...as this will be.....Modularity gives you the option to redesign on the fly....or fix a screw up. !!! I have experienced BOTH...more times than I will ever admit !!!

Good luck !! Keep us posted as you go....I will chime in with a verbose amount of Blah, Blah....No extra charge !!!

OH....and go slow....real slow....We will be watching and cheering you on !!!

Yes I agree CDBEAM, modularity is the way to go.

Here's an update now for my sliders.
I've got a set of tiny 2k sliders that will be mounted of a PCB into the switch cavity.

The Dimensions for the 2k sliders are 18L x 5W x 5H mm.
I bought them from here:
2x 2K MINI SLIDE POT Potentiometer Slider - AUS STOCK | eBay

The Battery configuration is the common configuration, they go in one after the other. :crackup:

The host takes three (3) x 18650 or 26650 giving me the required 12.6v.
I'm just going to use one 5v regulator as you suggested to pick off the 5v I need for the RGB modulated channels.

The host was purchased from:

Would you mind getting some really good pictures of the mounts for the modules? I want to see if my uncle can replicate it. He has a small machine shop. Pictures with a caliper would be great. 400.00 is just too much to dish out. I have some diodes that I realize are not as good as what you have selected, but would "work". I'd like to replicate your project in a bit cheaper way.

Ok, a couple of people have asked me to take a beam profile at 50m so here it is.

Sorry it took so long as I've been busy with work and it actually takes a surprisingly long time to set this test up
since I'm working with the bare module, mains dual power supply and prototype boards and sliders.

I set this up at night inside a shed and took a reading through my laser range finder with my iPhone at 52 meters at a chair that's supporting a white cardboard sheet.
Then I went up close and took a fast exposure shot of 1/8000 sec so as to not over-expose the beam
since the beam is so bright it saturates the beam spot in the photo otherwise.

So, as for me, I'm very happy with the result.
I'm basically building an RGB White handheld laser pointer that has the ability to dial/slide up any combination of RGB WL's.

I'm very excited how its all coming together.
I've ordered my tiny 5v regulator PCB and the 3D printed cylinder body that will house the module and driver has been printed and shipped.
I should have it next week.

So.... progress is being achived.

Nice, I kind of like the way the different diode divergences and slight alighnment differences make that tri-color spot.

It is quite attractive having them slightly different sizes, and it produces some very cool optical effects if it is capable of burning. This was mine when I still had my RGB together.

The laser was burning through a piece of plastic at the time. The weird shapes was caused by the having different beam specs.

Na, it's not moving, it's stationary.
I had it on a tripod clamp, it's just that it has a little bit of splash on the side.

The Range Finder is the "Leupold RX 1000i TBR with DNA Laser Rangefinder".
It's the IR model, not the visible Red.

Pretty cool module! Is the white beam (not dot) well balanced?
