GB laser barrels

Shiny. Outstanding. I can't wait. Now I need to buy another diode. :P
I am pretty sure I know 2-3 people that will want to get in on the next run.

May I suggest something... Create a sticky (locked) that gives a bullet point summary of this thread.
Something like:
•Battery size is 2 X CR123a
•Lens is included
•Driver is included that will supply diode x with ?mA, adjustable by doing ___ to provide diode y with ?mA

Just a thought

if you know how to do it then you can share it with me. I am unaware of any way to do this. I know that this is a lot of pages to read. but it gives you a feel for the evolution of this project and how we reached where we are. I like to tell the story of how we got here. how we get here is sometimes just as important as getting there.

well, I got the bill today for the prototype I had a machine shop put me togther so I could show you all what these would look like.
Sticker shock has hit me hard on this end!!!!

$895

Needless to say I'm at a loss as to how to pay for this. I was expecting maybe $100.

How much did they say the run would cost on top of that? I expect it's like making business cards where the real expense is creating the dies for the run, but the product creation itself costs far less.

yeah. this wasn't done by the manufacturer. This was done by a plain old basic machine shop, I've no clue how they rationalize that expense but it's a bit stupid. it's like hiring someone to come into your home and pick up your house and for every piece of dirt you get charged $1

Actually that sounds about right, :(
I have a lot of experience as both a "manuaul machinist", and a CNC-programmer/machinist, (mechanical designer now). I had stated earlier when some were grumbling about the slight increase in manufacturing costs, that I would charge a minimum of $300+ for a single barrel kit. In my local area the standard "shop-rate" is about $100/hour. Each set of threads would likely take about a hour to complete alone, whereas once set-up and programmed, the CNC will complete these threads in about 10 seconds.
$895 may be a little excessive, but in reality, that is only allowing 9 hours to complete the project from start to finish, (a single day), this does not sound too unrealistic.
I hope Kenom does not have to shoulder this necessary prototype expense alone? ;)
Great job on the barrel Kenom!!, Manufacturing is always like this, but it gets much easier with every project. I will be in on the next buy for sure! ;D
Dark Horse

Wow kenom, mebay setup a donation to help pay for that expensive prototype? Anyways the barrels look awesome and I cant wait to get mine.
