GB: 2$ copper modules ALL SIZES CLOSED

plus if you're buying 300 springs, it will get expensive at a hardware store paying $1 each, when you could probably get them for like $0.10ea in bulk online.

or, hop on alibaba.com and have the chinese custom make you some springs lol
that's what i'd do, and have done in the past for items.
I'll check alibaba
Those are good for small quantities but at large quantities those are quite expensive :(

EDIT: I'll be contacting them http://m.alibaba.com/product-gs/536756548/custom_compression_springs.html?s=p tonight about springs ;)
If they aren't too expensive I'll include them with everyone's modules

For the springs they are 0.05$ each and theres a minimum order of 5000, thats 250$ total for 5000 springs.

ill look into a lesser expensive option or with less MOQ

Here is an interesting resource...

HOW TO MAKE SPRINGS

You know what we need to find?

Springs.

I actually did some looking but got tired one night. It should be doable and we really should be able to find better (a little stiffer IMHO) springs than we have now.

And they should be cheap in large quantities.

PLUS, if we get them in COPPER they will add to the heat sinking! ;)

OR COLORS! We could get violet, blue, green and red springs and color co-ordinate them to the laser diode!

Those LOOK a little too stiff.

I considered this...

Some Amazon Assorted Springs

And this

Some other Amazon Assorted Springs

But it would be best to find a couple of different strength springs in the right diameter / length and have masses of them on hand. Light, medium and heavy kind of like guitar strings.

Currently I make my wife hand tool them from Piano wire when she is not tending to the kids, mailing something for me or making a meal for me.

The manufacturer I got a quote from sells them for 0.23$ for copper springs.... Minimum order 5000. Who's up for a copper springs with gold plating GB

HOW TO MAKE SPRINGS

They are a bit thick, but I dont know how stiff they would actually be. I prefer mine stiff, like a spring from an AA battery holder. The aixis springs feel like there is nothing there, I like the lens held tight where it takes some force to turn.

The manufacturer I got a quote from sells them for 0.23$ for copper springs.... Minimum order 5000. Who's up for a copper springs with gold plating GB

Copper springs? :wtf: Those would be weaker than the aixis ones!

There is absolutely positively no logical validity to the notion that it's worth going copper for the springs. That's just nonsense.

You know I was joking, right? I also don't make my wife tool springs from piano wire either!

Here is a spring that might work, but $0.28 US sounds high to me!

W.B. Jones Spring Company: Part #237

Outside Diameter (in.)0.281
Inside Diamter (in.) 0.229
Overall Length (in.) 0.500
Wire Diameter (in.) 0.026
Rate (lbs./in.) 5.65

Solid Height (in.) 0.26 Could be a problem.

Ends CLOSED
Material MUSIC WIRE
Finish ZINC

Here are the numbers I get for the current springs...

0.269 inches / 6.84mm o.d.
0.244 inches / 6.22mm i.d.

0.580 inches / 14.75 mm length (this could change a good bit without causing problems)

0.014 inches / 0.35 mm wire diameter

~0.1 inch / 2.44mm solid height

Which doesn't add up perfectly, but it is probably close enough.

Oh, I saw that AnthoT was getting copper spring quotes, and I thought everyone was serious about this.

I wonder how difficult it would be do something like this ( see the plastic insert? )
228287.jpg

Just mill a little slot into the brass lens housing and jam a cylinder of hdpe in there.
It works great for a sight post, I can't see why it wouldn't work for a lens too.

Warne - the plastic that broke off would be melted between the lens and the diode window and would damage the diode window.

Lol I was joking about copper, I did actually get a quote, but anyway for zine plated carbon steel it's 0.06$ each, and again at a quantity of 5000...

Apparently some type of metal, the manufacturer said that it had to be plated with something and I said I'll take the least expensive option then he said zine, so I said its fine, but I actually have no idea what it is  or the guy could have made a typo, zine, zinc
