You'd probably need one more like this: DigiWeigh DWP-2004 Digital Laboratory Scales. This one goes to 4 decimal places ie 0.1 mg and if they used Ni you really would find it difficult.
For the volume too, I'd recommend some sort of burette (microburette) or capillary measurement.

Would be interesting to try though! Give it a go! :beer:

I'll be picking one up that goes to 3 decimal places, that ones a bit expensive I'm going to make sure this is copper :D but 2K for the precise one is a little much :(

@AnthoT do you already have a plan to test the purity of the copper we we'll be getting?

If not, a quick google search yielded this; The Handheld XRF Analyzer Gun | Scrap Metal Junkie. Apparently these XRF analysers are commonly used in scrap yards and the scrap metal industry in general. Other possibilities might include very precise conductivity or density measurements (though these will be difficult, probably not accurate and by no means conclusive!) or even thermal conductivity tests?

Im still reading about other options and will post these too if you need them?

Just curious, because (and as people have mentioned above) Chinese manufacturers don't always supply whats written on the label...:undecided:

Really, it depends on the gun’s age, who you are buying from, and what condition it is in.
XRF guns can be rented for as little as $2000/month (thats right as little as). The actual gun itself, new, will cost over $35k easily. Used, you will be paying $20k.



Show me where AnthoT has made enough profit on this $2.00 per item
GB to be able to purchase that tool to content you with copper quality
tests...

If he says he talked to the Supplier and the supplier said he will use Copper
that is good enough for me...

You don't need ultra sensitive scales. Put 100 modules on a scale with 1 decimal point and you have an accuracy reading of 3 decimals.
 
What about a pawn shop, they might have somthing like this.
They probably use it to test gold, but i would think it would work on copper to right?
 
I'm sorry, but testing the purity?

That goes beyond what is necessary I think.
 
Ok guys I will be performing some tests, but lets not go crazy spending thousands for 2$ modules.....
It will be copper, I will test and confirm it is copper, if zinc is a close density to copper then I'll cut one in half or someone else will as I have no metal cutting tools and well see if it's copper inside and the density will tell me if it's copper.

If there is any other simple inexpensive tests below around 20$ ill do it for you guys :D
 
It is more a fun project. To determine the density of the module and therefore if it is pure copper or copper-alloy. It isn't really necessary for laser building.

I guess but I don't mind finding the density for those who want it anyway. I've ordered the scale aswell as my current one only works with 1G and it's been a bit off lately so I got the other one ;) I'll give everyone the density once I get the modules :D

Woah Jerry hold your horses! Read what I said! I never suggested he buy one! All I said was scrap yards use them to test junk metal. I even said I would see if I could find one, who might let me test a module.

I think this is a good idea and I dont think its "beyond necessary". Testing the purity of the alloy NO but being able to judge which alloy they supplied us with YES.

As Blord has suggested the larger the quantity of material tested, the lower the error on the measurement. AnthoT will have plenty of material to test!

I was also thinking that someone might work in a chemistry, physics, engineering etc dept that might have access to some scales.....:beer:

I'm sorry I got no access to any of those resources.... I'll test them in about 15 at a time or the max once I hit the scales max weight ;) That way I'll get the most accurate results possible

If anyone has the resources to get the testing of every aspect that'd be good :) but not necessary

Thats the whole point! Will they supply us with a brass (copper and zinc alloy), their Al + Cu alloy they originally mentioned or the pure copper we are after? The thermal conductivities vary significantly with composition and hence the importance of the correct alloy!

run of the mill Aixiz modules..

the inside. Check the color and using a scribe see if the outside
and inside scratch with the same amount of force...
Then weigh it.. we can compare the weight to a standard Aixis
module..

These will definetly be better then Aixiz modules as you said, but I am telling everyone that the copper is copper :)

Anthol has mentioned this numerous times, that the manufacturer is not CHINESE but Japanese :beer:

Thank you for clearing that up for me. That makes me much less worried about their honesty if they are telling us that it is C10100 or "pure copper."

Now we might need a Geiger counter! ;)
