GB: 1W 520nm diode information/giveaway

Some news,

I raised this issue with the post office last week and they called me today to tell me they might just have found it, its certainly the right dimensions.

I cannot confirm this for a few days as i am away at the moment.

I be back to you as soon as possible.

Gotta say, some of you guys are acting like huge pesky blighters.

This was a gb for INFORMATION first, and a chance at getting a diode second. You are out of your mind if you think ARG is going to pay for a new diode haha. Everyone knew the risks when they signed up. It was understood that something could happen to the diode, and the only thing guaranteed was information. We have the information so quit bitching.

Oh, and questioning his integrity it ridiculous too. He could have just said it died but instead he owned up to his mistakes and told everyone the truth of what happened. Nobody would have known if he lied since everything we know about the situation is from his word. He still told the truth and doing so let everyone know mistakes were made. If that isn't a sign of integrity I don't know what is.

ARG is one of the greatest guys on this forum. He didn't have to do this, he doesn't gain from it, he did it solely for the advancement of the hobby. Everyone who is saying he should pay for a new diode, YOU are the ones who are showing YOUR true integrity and damaging YOUR reputation. I know from know on any time I read one of your posts I will remember how childish you acted in this thread.

Reactions: ARG
It may have been a mistake, sure, but a) its over now, no changing it and b) how was he supposed to know how long the diode would be gone, or that it would go MIA on the return back to him?

We are now...Childish, Preposterous, Pesky Blighters and Huge Buffoons...and we WILL pay the price....for our Buffoonery !!!! WHAT ?? Our future posts will be received with this childish behavior as our legacy ??? WHAT ??

Definition of Buffoon: a gross and usually ill-educated or stupid person !!

Benmwv..I take umbrage at your statement !!! You are doing double talk....and engaging in an argumentation failure of the: Non Sequitur class.

Because we all knew there are risks with pushing a diode beyond its rated capacity....therefore....we knew....about all the risky, foolish and sub-standard shipment methods that would be employed both to and from the optical tester.

We did not know....we did not approve....and....if put to a quorum.... IMHO...we would have said...absolutely NO.

This flaw in your argumentation is a classic " Non Sequitur " ....One just simply not follow the other !!! How dare we expect accountability for unilateral decisions, made without our prior knowledge or consent....which...as of this time... has impact on our joint property. I must be outa my mind !!!

Furthermore.....Benmwv sez....

"This was a gb for INFORMATION first, and a chance at getting a diode second. You are out of your mind if you think ARG is going to pay for a new diode haha. Everyone knew the risks when they signed up. It was understood that something could happen to the diode, and the only thing guaranteed was information. We have the information so quit bitching."

AND...the first ARG OP sez...

" We will not be killing this diode. Once all the information has been received it will be sent to a participant of the GB to keep.
Each 10$ you donate to the GB counts as one entry.
Daguin, or another trusted member will draw the winner. "

I see no order of preeminence in the OP!!! I do not see where one aspect of the GB takes priority over the other !!!! The GB was for BOTH....Information and a chance at wining a 1W 520 !! THEY WERE BOTH SET AS A CONDITION OF THIS GB !!!!!!

Yes....there are risks with pushing a diode beyond its rated capacity....We all entered this GB with FULL knowledge of this fact.

We knew the risks of testing beyond rated capacity....and....with this prior knowledge went forward with our participation and individual funds. Of the other unknown and unjustified risks....we had no knowledge.

The "Something" that happened to this diode.....was that it was shipped back to ARG....from a country with known postal problems....to a country with MORE known postal problems...uninsured and untracked... AND THAT is Buffoonery !!!

THAT was a preventable risk. That was an unnecessary risk.....AND that is at the heart of this discussion.

I hope this diode shows up !! That would be great !! I for one will take away some lessons concerning the pitfalls of a group buy. This whole mess is not about losing a chance at a 1W 520. Who cares !! It is about poor decisions made on our behalf....without our input....which likely has lead to a loss of our property.

Note: I plan on continued behavior of a " Pesky " nature...even at the risk of my reputation !!!
Buzz...Buzz...Buzz !!!

@CDBEAM I will decode and read your smaller posts, but I'm going to need some additional formatting to read that.

by his actions since has not shown the integrity to admit he made a mistake and apologize for doing so.

I have apologized for where I have done wrong. However, I didn't do any wrong by sending the diode to Andy for further testing. I know that is not your opinion, and I respect that, but that doesn't mean I agree with it. As I explained in detail before, my responsibility was to asses the risk of each test, and if it was a low risk I would continue with the testing. Sending the diode to Andy was low risk, and I took that opportunity. I don't agree with your assessment of it being a "risky decision" but that again is opinion. Please refer to my other posts on this subject, I don't feel like typing it all out again.
Also, the only thing that was secret about the testing was the testers identity, which was requested to remain anonymous.

Honor the Trust given by the participant’s to have their best interest in mind
I did, and still do have the participants best interests in mind. More data is better for everyone.

Hahaha...I don't DO "smaller posts"...I just Buzz...and Buzz....and Buzz !!!!!!!

Decode ???:thinking::thinking: OK...my last post was mainly directed toward Benmwv....but...format away !!

I am so sorry you are having such difficulty answering the question.
One more time - Was it a mistake for you not to consult the participants before making any agreement with Andy?

Edit: There never was a question in your last post. If you had made it this clear in the last post what question you had I would've been able to give you the same answer then.

I thought my answer was clear enough for you.

No, it was not a mistake.

* snip snip* first post *snip snip*
Please note:
The only thing you are guaranteed to receive for participating in this GB is information on the new diodes.

I have anamorphic prisms and cylindrical lens' to do some basic optic testing. I'm talking with another member about sending the diode to him after for some in depth optical tests.

We are almost there folks, at 550/840! :)

I'll post a link to a spreadsheet or website where the data will be publicly published. The raw data and graphs will both be available.

I collect temperature, voltage, current, wavelength, and optical power.
From those I can get input power and efficiency as well.

I also do some hot/cold tests to test for wavelength shifts.

This diode may also be sent to another member here after the tests I do for some beam correcting tests, as I have a limited collection of anamorphic prisms and cylindrical lens'

I'm talking with a member who may want to do some more tests with the diode (beam size & optical correction). If that falls through I'll shoot a PM off to Dave to pick a number between 1 and 93 :D

Update on the diode, it is being sent out to a member for beam size and correction optic testing. The data will be posted once it is collected :)

First post says nothing guaranteed but test results. Did not guarantee what results. "test results" could be whether it breaks when dropped in 16 ounces of vitamin D whole milk. Not that results are guaranteed for all tests mentioned, or for any particular tests.

3 more posts (not back-to-back) all over 5 months old, all stating that a third party will be involved in beam correction tests. A third party beyond ARG or DTR. Nobody objects. The forum is warned THREE TIMES. NO objections.

A fifth post then states that the diode was sent, and that we are awaiting results. Forum comfortable. With a little unease from ADukeNumber1 (pardon if I messed up your name, but you know who you are).

So what does this mean? It means all that was guaranteed, in the first post of this thread, was results. Untitled results, but results. Did you get results? Yes. All guarantees have been made. It did not say "a diode to a random donor , and results guaranteed" did it? Absolutely not.

It was also stated THREE times, that a third party will be involved in testing. It can be assessed that this third party is not coming over for a visit to check this diode. Also, if anyone had an issue, or an inclination of this being an issue, it was not mentioned once after the THREE times this was brought up.

Now suddenly it was a surprise that it was sent out?

I fail to see the logic here.

All that aside. Andy also mentioned purchasing diodes for $600 from a less than trustworthy source. Given that no data was posted on that/those diode(s) (that I am aware of) I am assuming they did not get to you? Or is there at least a diode from that shipment that tests can be run on?

As I see it, everyone was warned, and the guarantee was made. As unhappy as you may be, he held up his end of the deal. It just comes down to everyone wanting the diode, and the taste of "giveaway" is going from sweet to sour.

PS - I need to now delete another post as I am saving my 4000th for something "special".

The "guys" I was referring to are not everyone who feels a mistake has been made, I was specifically referring to the ones who feel the need to make rude comments about someone who was only trying to do things in the best interests of the forum. Do not put words in my mouth.

cdbeam, Im going to try to respond to your post directed at me but honestly you should try to organize it a little better or something. Its very hard to even read much less understand.

First of all, I didnt even write pesky buffoons or whatever you can blame that one on ped haha ;) I thought it was pretty funny. Considering how much offense you took to that though its probably a good thing you didnt see the original text. Second, if you read the op it clearly states the only thing guaranteed is information. Bloompyle has it all laid out for you above.

If you guys have any more questions I would like to direct you to ARGs posts, my last post, and bloompyles post. We have already addressed everything and you guys are just rehashing the same questions over and over now.

Bloompyle sez.....

"So what does this mean? It means all that was guaranteed, in the first post of this thread, was results. Untitled results, but results. Did you get results? Yes. All guarantees have been made. It did not say "a diode to a random donor , and results guaranteed" did it? Absolutely not. "

Again....the original ARG OP post sez.....( A post with the title of " GB:1W 520nm Information/Giveaway"

"We will not be killing this diode. Once all the information has been received it will be sent to a participant of the GB to keep.
Each 10$ you donate to the GB counts as one entry.
Daguin, or another trusted member will draw the winner."

I must be crazy for taking the meaning of the word " Giveway"....and the above OP to indicate that this GB would be comprised of information gathering .....AND...that " a diode to a random donor " would be done when the testing was complete....meaning a raffle.....WTH else could this mean ????

I am simply arguing that we all did not agree to a foolish, unjustified method of shipping this diode around the world...uninsured and no tracking.

I grow weary of arguing about this bad dream of a GB !! Not only am I a BLIGHTER.....but...now..."the taste of "giveaway" is going from sweet to sour" per Bloompyle ....WHAT ??? Like I should feel guilty.....the only taste I have is ...BS !!!

A raffle....which this GB also was....is basically..."ya pay yur money....and ya takes yur chances". SO...we paid our money....got our info....but....the LD is gone....so....NO RAFFLE !!

The bottom line is that trust was broken....and....our best interests were not served. BUT....if the rest of the group is OK with this....FINE.....I will stop BUZZIN !!! For...I suppose......all these words....really do not matter... BUT....you can be sure.....I for one will ask MANY more questions before the next GB engagement !!

From your post I can tell you either didnt read my post and bloompyles post or you just disregarded everything we said. Either way im not going to waste my time deciphering these bricks you post anymore if thats what you are going to do.

Yikes......If YOU read my posts....which quote both you and Bloompyle.....you would easily see I have read your posts. I just completely disagree with your conclusions and arguments !!!!!!!!!!!

I give up....I am SOooo sorry for wasting your time deciphering my bricks....which are written in plain English.....I did not realize there was a limit on how long a post should be.....BUZZ, BUZZ...and BUZZZZZZZZZZZZ

The length is fine. I don't mean to be rude but it's the formatting that could use a lot of work. Reading up a bit on technical communication may help.
One of the important things with online communication is conveying personality through text, which you do well. However it can still be done while following the rules of English.

I give up, I am so sorry for wasting your time deciphering my bricks. Even though they are written in plain English.
I did not realize there was a limit on how long a post should be.

Edit: Back on topic, these giveaways have always been data before giveaway. Few people would have joined up if this was just a raffle, but people still would have joined if it was a diode killing. This was not clearly explained in the beginning, which is my fault.

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To many .......'s To many !!!!!!!!!'s To many BUZZ,BUZZ, BUZZZZZZZ

Hmmmmmm ??? :D:D:D

Still got a missing diode....But...thanx for the correction on that important matter :tired::tired::tired:

Well, there's not much to do about the diode but wait for Andy to check with the post office.

Or we could beat the dead horse some more, but I think everything has been said. :horse:
