GB#1st of PL-E Pro Lasers and PL-E 2.0/3.0 Clearance - May 2013

I tried it again this morning and from a cold start my meter stays at 70+ from stattup!

Excellent! Just in time for some reassurance to my payment for one of those beauties going out of my already thin wallet :p

Hello ,Grey.

Looking for a new laser target again.

May I ask does Jet Laser offer 473nm or 589nm portable lasers in the 50+mW ouput range?

I want to correct my earlier numbers. This 473 starts out at about 20mW and stays there for a good long while. The extra power I was seeing was all Infrared light. I decided to test for infrared after comparing my laser to a 532nm laser of equal power. The difference was so substantial that I used my eagle pair glasses to block all 473 output and I was left with 45-50mW of IR output at startup. That is roughly 70% of the output power I get from my PL-E Pro 473.

Ouch, that news must have bin kinda hard..

It was a downer let me tell you. The good side I see to this is that I still have a 473nm Laser now, whereas I didn't before, and for 320 dollars which isn't a bad price for what I got. Not as much of a super bargain as I thought when I first LPM'd it though. I am curious to find out if any of the other 473 PL-E owners have tried testing theirs to see if they have Ir output.

So basically its like marrying a women with a double d breast which turns out to be two grapefruits .Luckily she's not a he.

No it is like mail-ordering a random bride who is guaranteed to be between a "B" cup and a "C" cup. Then she arrives and she is "DD". However when she removes her bra, it is a water bra and her actual breasts are a little above a "B" cup, just a little bit. Really weird analogy but this is closer than what you said.

I have already started on a quick easy fix for this - just waiting for Gray to get up (13hr diff) if you have a pro- look at the lend cap- a hole slightly smaller that a IR filter could be easily drilled and filter glued - done!

our faces wiil stop beng red in time and the why and how this happened are not important-
the fix is the issue-
If Gray agrees I will get these made and sent to all asap-
I could do my one in very short time if I remembered where ny Techhod IR fikters were 2 for 10$ IIRC
quck ship too..
But lets let JL make these -- only down side is IIRC the new BEs will be threaded juat like the lens cap so BE + no IR filtering AFAIK.

I had aksed a while back about IF but the Q was in a long PM and did not get seen I guess- looks like NO JL Pros dpss have IR filters so these altered caps need to be added or the ones not yet made need the glass window replaced with an I+R filter- I really dont think the totla output will suffer as much as many may think,

While it appears that wannaburnstuff's replacement 473nm does not have an IR filter or has a less effective filter than would be expected---are you sure it was not just a production error/overseight rather than that all DPSS PL-E Pro have no IR filter?

It is hard to belive or imagine that all of the DPSS PL-E Pros including 532nm have no IR filter or how that could be the case/happen as it was one of the important features and a big selling point about prior models.

Looking at the JetLasers website , I see no mention of IR filter on PL-E V3.0 specifications either, however, it was my understanding that all DPSS PL-E V3.0 and 2.0 had a high quality IR filter as did earlier models and TiB 532, also.

I would recommend all PL-E Pro owners use good quality glasses to block the visible wavelength and see if any output is registered on your LPM. My previous 473 was unfiltered as well.

Concerning, to say the least. Goggles will probably reflect some of the IR output, too...
