I'd maybe buy some, but I'm wondering - what are some uses for it. I've read about high-temperature thermometers and that they're used in semi-conductors, but what do you or Day plan on using it for? (Or is it just to mess around w/ because its still cool lol)

Oh, it's even more important than being just "used in semiconductors", it's used in a LOT of semiconductors. In fact, unless I've missed something, there's gallium in every laser diode on this forum, red, violet, or IR. And every LED out there. Gallium is one of the main group III materials used in III-V semiconductors, so it's pretty much always there.

sweet!

tried to get this stuff on ebay last year but lost. now its my chance ^^

I highly doubt it's fake, it melts just fine like nothing else can, and the luster is just like the pictures. That's the best I can do though...

Yeah, that's what it would cost. Added to the order list.

Yeah, I'm not too educated about the way lasers work. I actually read about how gallium is used in many if not all lasers while I was doing researching new laser programs at various colleges. I'm a junior in high-school now, and I would love to get into a college which has some great laser lab facilities I may get to be a part of. I.E. Binghamton "Funded by a three-year, $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation as well as a Cottrell College Science Award of $44,244 from the Research Corporation, Oana Malis, assistant professor of physics, is looking for new materials that would allow laser light to be generated in ranges that are not currently accessible. She is particularly interested in how the optical properties of gallium nitride, a compound semiconductor material, could be used."

Also, I'd love to get some gallium to mess around with, but I'm currently almost broke, and it seems like 3 grams wouldn't be much AT ALL and it wouldn't be worth it to get such a small amount.

Sorta random but... I really need a job lol

That's right- GB ends tomorrow! Get on the boat- you won't regret buying this stuff! It's awesome.

I disagree. See that lump in my hand in the first picture? That's less than 3g, and more than enough to enjoy! Just $10.50 shipped.

Would you be able to get some caesium next time?

I'm sorry, no. I can't get any alkali metals or alkali earth metals. I can't get any halogens or other gases, either. However, let me know what you want for next time- send me a PM or something. I can get metals such as indium and chromium, and also others such as antimony and boron. Contact me for requests.

mine just arrived this stuff is so cool  :P ;D ;D+1 rep for the killer GB  ;)

Thanks John!  I'm glad you enjoy it!

Update on the new GB: there will definitely be another GB, with many other elements included as well.  I'm looking around for suppliers of different metals, and definite elements included will be:

-Gallium
-Selenium
-Tellurium
-Indium
-Boron

I'm trying to get iodine as well, but it is quite hard to obtain iodine as an individual, so we'll see how that goes.

Any other suggestions, just let me know, by PM or in this thread.  I can obtain most elements within reason, meaning no alkali metals, no halogens (besides iodine, which I'm trying to get), and no radioactive metals.  If you want anything else, let me know and I'll try to find it.

EDIT: I am going to make a separate thread, a feeler, asking about what elements people would like. I will post them at the top.
