FYI Warning Charger Fail

It appeears that many, like myself, like the nitecore i2 and i4s-

I must admit being able to use so many sizes and kinds in one smart charger looks to have the best of all worlds.

So with the added safety, the convience, the seperate LEDs for each battery and all else. Nitecore is actually the best value no doubt- Comparing 20$ to all the possible bad things like a fire...should be all the proof needed to convince anyone about which way to go is best. I will have a friend look into how many comes in a case and how much lower we can get them.

So that being said - we should use the 'buying power' of the forums to get as many out to the members as possible and at a better price than $20.

IMO the cheapy chargers
should be used very carefully(away from flammable items) and only if no other better charger can be found.

I spent some time at completed sales and saw almost none for less than 15$ shipped- and many that were gotten for more.

Current USPS regs forbid shipping of any/all lithiums and Li-ions UNLESS they are in the 'intended device' I wonder if a charger could be regarded as an intended device??
Aside from my eekbay listings I found no sellers requiring shipping batteries other than by USPS service. A few have the PO symbol/logo showing in their main pics. AND AFAIK NO china seller sends batteries any other way than China or HongKong post which both become USPS once arriving in USA.

I won't and neither will JL.

consider this post to be a feeler on a GB for a case of nitecore i2 smart chargers -- PM me I will keep a list.

OR if anyone finds them shipped for 14$ let me know please.. I need a bunch to offer with my Li=ion sales.

ALSO I am actively seeking someone to partner with me on some Li-ion Heavy Duty chargers- they need to be modded for our use. We need to add the battery holders ( these are twin chargers) prolly charging as many as 8 batteries at one time. This requires some one with high skill level on li-ion smart chargers- If you think you could DIY a charger from parts then we need to talk- pretty awesome looking chargers- large heatsink- three LEDS- the plug has 8 pins- the charger runs off ac. For the right person this would be an easy mod/hack.

PM me

Len

I've ordered an Ebay laser with a battery and charger that looks exactly like that, should I be buying a better one from somewhere else? It claims to be a 16340 battery but then further down the page it says it's a 18650 battery

Hey Gun. I would not use the charger until I checked it with a meter; just to be sure it's not already fried. Then put a battery in it and check it very few minutes, me I would check every two minutes. I would babysit it and never fell safe with it. I do have another charger from the same seller of the same kind, that works fine, but I don't trust it. I get a reading of 4.30v open circuit on the one that works.

One thing I would add, is a power adapter to get the line voltage out of the unit. It would keep the heat down and make the charger that much safer if only 12vdc is being fed to it.
I'm currently looking for a suitable unit and will post when I find one. The label on the charger reads 12vdc at 10 watts. I think that a 1000ma adapter would work, but I'll do testing. I found this one.

yeah but then you have shipping and its back up to roughly $20 again. i contacted one place last night and they asked me to give them a call today so ill call after my finals

Those pics in the OP are nothing to ignore-- and the batteres themselves can be dangerous- I try to avoid all cheaper kinds of both. So when I send the free cheap chargers I always make a point of warning about them- get a smart charger ASAP- use the cheapy only when you must and never overnight.

Too many people over the years kept some rechargeables stored in a charger.
Even in the best chargers I would not do that myself.

Use of a timer may be something to consider for the cheapies.

ALSO as shipping can vary so much _ do not quote any prices unless i either go ahead and add that or make a note of that additional charge.

You can find completed sales for the i2 charger of $8.50 but they want $8 more to ship-- so...

I had a second charger same seller. As I have the i4, I thought that I would have a look inside the second charger,( that seemed to work OK), Just as the first one the same resistor was in failure mode. It was brown and only one color band could be seen, the rest had burned. So throw these things away and buy a "real" intelligent charger.

So if you haven't bought that $200 1watt laser yet, take note of this. real Safety glasses, batteries and charger are going to cost more than half again the price of the laser. Don't go cheep, if you have to wait and save up- then do it. Buy the stuff you need first; then buy the laser you will be glad you did. Nothing worse than having a laser you can't use safely, except using it and harming your self, someone else or burning down your house.
:cryyy:

I wouldn't trust these chargers as far as I could throw them. If I ever get them with anything, they just go straight in the bin, not worth the fire hazard. Get yourself a decent charger if you don't want to burn your house down.

Nitecore i2 & i4 should be the standard chargers for everyone. Not too expensive and for the price.....absolutely amazing. Had mine plugged in yesterday for I kid you not 10 hours straight charging every battery I own and it didnt get even slightly hot

^ I agree mine has been great, no heating, over charging, nadda. Just clean performance all the way. I've had mine for 3 weeks or so, use it every day. If you don't have one buy one.

I have an ECO-10 from Hobbyking I use to charge all my batteries, including my electric scooter and RC LiPo's, it's great for the price.

I have this same charger, atleast chassis and mechanism is the same.
Charger info
ac in 110-220V
output 3.7V/450mA
end of charge 4.2V+-1%
Came with battery
Ultrafire
LC 16340 1500mAh 3.6V

I it safe to use this till i have time to get good charger?
Can i charge my other battery;
Led Lenser
14500
700mAh
3.7V
With this.

Ps. ive read the guides and know that ultrafire is shit and this charger aint very wise choice, is there any better cheap battery recharger packets that fit this laser.
Its my first "5mW" and i fell in love with it.
Pps. Pointer seems to use battery even if not used, what can cause this?
