FS: Large Maglite Monster Kits! FlexModP3, Side Button Forward Clicky!

For the batteries listed at the websites, are they sold in pairs or individually?

The links I have on the first post, are price per battery... Like the 32600's from Kaidomain, are about $17 dollars each...

Ah, Thanks. Wasn't sure if that was a pair because it showed more than one in the picture and the price seemed like a little much because 26650's are only 9$ each or so.

Yes, the 26650's are also in the U.S., and are readily available!

DTR may possibly be stocking some 32650's from Flydragon. It's not for sure. But if it happens, then they will be cheaper from him, than from Flydragon...

Because they have expensive shipping. But he is trying to get bulk, and save on shipping.

Hopefully that happens!

:bumpit: Update:

I'm now offering a Jib driver 'Hot' option for these builds as well as a FlexModP3 driver option...

Jib driver 'Hot' option:

As an option for the 2 cell build, the Jib drivers heatsinked to the host are a very nice linear driver for less than the FlexModP3 'Hot' option. (or if the FlexModP3 is not available at the moment)

Per jib77, this linear driver will drop out of regulation (start to give less current) around 1.5V + diode voltage, so I expect around 6-6.2V for a 445. Which is perfect for this build.

I have 1.8 Amp, and 1.3-1.6 Amp Jib drivers... (the 1.3 Amp ones may vary depending on IC efficiency - 1.3 to 1.6)

I have tested the 1.8 Amp drivers (heatsinked), and they are very nice and stable at 1.8 Amps! :)

I contacted jib77 for his advice, as well as did my own testing for heatsinking. It's a nice set up...

* The Jib driver 'Hot' option (heatsinked as shown) is $55 dollars.

I recommend staying to a 1 or 2 minute duty. (same for the P3)

I'm sure it would probably go much longer, but it's a good rule or thumb to get into the habit of...

Femto Doc, I'm sending yours today! :)

Some 32650's available!:

I have only 8 of these 5500mAh non-protected 32650's available...

32650%205500.jpg

These are available to buyers when getting a complete Maglite build with 'Hot' option (or XM-L T6 build).

They are perfect for the Stubby, or the 2 cell build...

They fit the 2 cell build with the tail cap mod shown in the first post. ($8)

I will sell them for $25 dollars each. First come, first serve...

:thanks:

Hey,
I just want to give you my experience with the Monster-Mag.
I got it 2 Weeks ago and since I ordered the Hot-Option I only had to solder 4 Wires into the right place, put batteries in it, put on my safety glasses and have fun.
BUT it was not that easy. As for the cells I am using A123 LiFePO4 cells that have somewhat of an inverted layout. The negative site has the small thing (not sure how to say that in Englisch, but it is almost like the positive site on a Nimh-Battery, I hope you get it) and the positive site is just flat metal. (I got this knowledge after what happened^^.) So I wasn't really thinking about some different battery layout and put it in the Mag the wrong way.

I turned it on - tried to - nothing happened, screwed it apart to check connection between the wires and tried it again. Then I just heard a loud "popp" and saw smoke coming from the head. I instantly put it off and removed the batteries.
To make this short, I killed the driver and the huge resistor exploded.
I ordered a new driver from Jay and got it really fast, thanks for that again.

And now it finally works and looks great.
The build is incredible, heatsinking is great, there seems to be no end as to how long you can run it.
If I had turned my brain on before the first try, I am sure, I could have prevented buying a new driver.

Host: The 2D-Host is really great. I got it with the color "smoke" and it feels really good in your hand, because with batteries in it, it has just the right weight to not feel out of balance. The clicky does feel great as well, in fact it seems to be able to handle a lot higher current.

Cells: The A123 Cells are a good choice for a laser, if you actually remember that they look different - as I wrote above. You can charge them in about 15-20mins which is a rate of 4C. My loader only gets up to 8 Amps and the cells have 2600mAh, so I can not try the maximum, but at 8 Amps they are not even getting warm.
There is but one negative point about the combination of these cells and the Maglite: The negative contact is too small to make safe contact to the spring of the host. So I got a coin and put it in between. This is not the best solution, but works fine until now.

All in all this is a absolutely great laser at a very good price and the support is great as well. Thanks to Jayrob again for making this possible and for the great work.

Greets from Germany

Andreas

Got your PayPal... :thanks:

Talk to you soon!

Could you make that heatsink to allow an aixiz, as well as a high power flashlight led? I think the 'stubby' host would make an awesome, sturdy, camping/utility light/laser combo. With plenty of room! Are you still able to fit the waterproof retaining ring?

iT'S BEEN 10 DAYS!! WHERE'S MY LASER :san::san::san:

BTW, just kidding! (here's a free bump)

(nobody take me seriously please!)

Hi,

I have the 'Stubby' mod available for the laser kit, as well as the XM-L T6 flashlight mod...

But I do not see a way to have it be a combo laser/flashlight in one.

You know what? It would actually be pretty cool if you could drill a 12mm hole in the reflector and heatsink so you could just slide an aixiz module in there with a small driver in the back :)

Ofcourse, there will be heaps of light getting bounced around within the reflector but I can't see the diode suffering from C.O.D.

Yeah it would be tricky...

It would need it's own separate switch and stuff.

Good timing!

Just so happens that I shipped your package today...

I will PM you the tracking number.

Hope to see some comments back here when you do your build!

Awesome, I will definitely post a review, will be sometime after the holidays... still gotta wait to unwrap the rest of the parts... asked family to get them for me as presents :san:

It's built....

I don't know what words can describe how awesome this laser is!!
I got the Maglite 2D/black/Hot FlexModP3/32650 protected mod/1.6amps/405-G-1 lens mod and using the 445 diode with leads from DTR.

I don't think I'll be desiring a more powerful laser for a LONG time! This thing scares me! Putting everything together took less time than finding my soldering iron! Wish I had a LPM, but kinda pointless I think... nearly everything starts smoking as soon as it meets the beam. (BTW... I got these goggles, and the spot is still very visible)

Thanks jayrob! awesome work!
