FS: Full Colour Driver Extension for the White Fusion kit

Are you sure the case has to be aluminum? I was planning on using the clear plastic case Jayrob used if I ever get around to building this. I do have a small fan though. I've had it ever since I joined this forum, mentioned it in my first post haha.

Oh OK sorry I just saw "Anyone who plan to use this driver inclosed (a white fusion box for example) must use an aluminum case". I didn't even realize you meant for the 695ma setting.

Man I'd love to build a white laser... can you point me towards a full assembly guide? I'm quite the noob when it comes to this stuff xD

I'll take one if I can figure out how to assemble everything :)

I am getting a 445nm diode soon, I hope. The only modification I should need to make is increase the idle current to 200mA or so. I'll post what I find so all owners can modify theirs.

And for future orders, just let me know if you want to use the driver with blue or violet diode and I'll preset the idle current accordingly.

As for max current I think 449mA is good enough, but there's always the 695mA option, and that will be way more than enough (dwarf the red and green)!

After playing with the blue laser, yep, the idle current will need to be higher, and I'm a little worried about how non-linear the diode is as it ramps up. As more modes turn on, it gives several jumps in power (at least mine seems to, it'll be different for everyone), so that may affect how well it modulates. I'm sure it'll be no worse than a DPSS module, which works fine for the green, but it doesn't seem as if it would modulate as well as the single-mode violet diodes.

I'm guessing it will do just fine since it's just on-off PWM. But I have read that the diode will be very unstable at lasing threshold and may go in and out of lasing with small difference in temperature, and it will put out 10-20mw already at the threshold. So I can probably not get the diode just to start lasing, so I have to set it quite a bit below the threshold. But it's better than nothing.

I have done some tests with the casio 445nm diode today and I'm happy to inform you all that both the white fusion and full colour driver supports it!

The diode is highly unstable around 200mA where it starts to lase. I don't recommend running the diode below 250mA, so 250mA minimum. Also, the diode is pretty bright already as the threshold so it wont be good for low powers. It pretty much goes from a dim LED to a bright laser with nothing in between, so getting it right on the threshold is impossible, and even if you did it would just drift out again as the diode heats up.

I found that a 100 ohm 1/2W resistor is ok to use for idle current. In my opinion you don't even need to have the ide current, it will probably work fine without it, or with the idle current used for blu-ray. You can decide.

At around 330mA drive current the diode somewhat matches the brightness of a LCC/LOC red diode driven at 491mA.

The sled-optics seem to handle the wavelength very well, actually you have all the power you need anyway, believe me - IT IS WAY BRIGHT!

In conclusion I really like this diode, its a million times better than blu-ray at making full colours. Pure eye candy! I'm sorry I don't have any pictures to show you yet but I will deliver. Gotta work on some drivers now.

Great news about the 455nm diodes being supported :D Looking forward to your pics! When we order the board from you, would you be able to premod it for 455nm?

I'm guessing it is too late to change my current settings to accommodate a 445nm..
If it isn't though I would like to change it to 449mA's.

I changed it for you.

Yes sure, I dont charry the resistors for blue idle current right now. But I think the idle current for violet may work too.

Hi everyone, I'm sorry that I haven't finished any drivers yet... I found that one of the resistor values was totally wrong so I had to order the correct one. I was hoping it would arrive Friday, but I can expect it tomorrow. But I have been working this time anyway, I've competed 9 drivers so far (minus the missing resistors) so the drivers will be gone quick soon!
