Thanks.. It looks like both blue and green need to decrease a bit on that plot.
My guess is that 150ish mw of 642 will be about the same as the output I get from a cheap LOC from a dvd burner. Hmm... tho the dvd diode would be running way over spec, and the 642 wouldn't be..
I'll go w/ the LOC for now.. That'll leave room for a future upgrade.

decreasing blue pulls you towards green, decreasing green pulls you towards blue, the only thing that will show you any significant lateral movement of the point is more or less red, of different wavelengths, with positive and negative results depending if your adding or subtracting more or less coherent wavelengths.

wow that made no sense. wait yes it did

you need more red. this is the best blend i think you will be able to attain with that output of that wavelength of red. as i said i spent more time on that plot than i should have, and that is the best i could have done. its blatantly obvious that either more of the same coherent wavelength is needed, or the addition of another.

as you can see here, all it took was +195mw of 642 to dial in a perfect white. im guessing you arent wanting this thing to pump out .5w though so ill fiddle around a bit when MS lets me breathe.
 
Well, it wouldn't be the first time a White Fusion went over 500mW.

Can I use cat5 as hookup wire for the lasers, or would I be better off having you install the wires? I do have some larger wire to go from the battery to the driver, but it's probably too fat to use for the lasers.

this statement leads me to suggest you try a different build for your first. cat5 is networking wire when assembled and shielded, and even dissasembled i wouldnt suggest its use. im not saying its impossible, ive used some weird stuff in a pinch, but.... yeah.

The wires need to be thin and flexible, as the ones seen in the tutorial. Unfortunately I am all out of wire.

Dood, I use cat 5 for a LOT of projects, as do many others. Good quality cat 5 is really good wire w/ good teflon insulation. It can be solid or stranded core 24 guage. I'm talking about the individual strands.
I'm not saying I was going to put a freakin network cable in the box. :)

Id even say the stranded stuff precisely meets the definition of thin and flexible

And my first build was about 18 years ago...

Well, the wires can be as fat as you want, if you can handle them. The soldering points on the driver are very small and close. The thinner wires and finer stands the wires have the better. If you can I suggest adding some strain relief at the joints with hot glue or silicone.

the wires contained inside the assembled category 5 cables are 24ga copper, typically unshielded.

im not trying to be a jerk whatsoever here, the only reason i persist is because your quoted naming standard refers to .... a network cable. im sure using the disassembled 24ga wire would work, but every network cable i ripped apart here for reference has different kinds of fibers around the copper, making it look like a solder nightmare.
 
Cool cool.. and my question was not technically worded at all.. I engineer all day at work, so I'm a little lazy on the forums.
I do know the math to figure out the power the wire can carry over the short distance and all, but... again, works been busy so I'm lazy and don't use that part of my brain for the extracurricular stuff.
But, I just did and it'll be fine..

-oh, and I have seen that cable with the fibers wrapped around the strands, but not often around here. I think it gives it strength for unusually long pulls. The stuff I find is usually just the TP's in the jacket. Each TP is a pair of teflon insulated copper wires. It makes great, free, small gage wire.

we have a "vetco" and a frys in town, which stocks TONS of components and wire and anything you could imagine up to 100W LED's, so im lucky for being able to grab 100yd spindles of 20 ga for less than 8$
.

i feel you there, tuesday is the first day of the new fiscal year, and so far we have heard nothing about reviews or whats happening with salary, so im really quite curious what will happen with everything. hopefully youre not a software engineer, im tearing my hair out this month!
