Re: FS: DIY Green Kit! Host, Heatsink - Easy Assem

I dont know if this is normal, but I notice sometimes when I turn it on, about 2 seconds later it will dim down 2 times, like bright dims to dimmer, than dimmer again, probably about half strength. I turn it off and it does it again, turned it off and on again and it dident do it. Its kinda spuratic, this is with brand new CR123 energizer E2 lithiums.

Re: FS: DIY Green Kit! Host, Heatsink - Easy Assem

Hmmm... could be the fresh battery was a little hot for it. Maybe...

You did not turn the pot on the driver did you?

Re: FS: DIY Green Kit! Host, Heatsink - Easy Assem

I may be getting another one of these, Jay. Are you still selling the 50 mW modules alongside the kit for an extra ~$30?

Shine it through a magnifying glass onto a wall and watch what the "spot" is doing (if anything)

Peace,

Re: FS: DIY Green Kit! Host, Heatsink - Easy Assem

kdubbz, it may also be dirty contact points or possibly the threaded piece is loose. This is the positive contact point. Make sure it is tight there...

Th0ughts, I do still have a couple of the 50mW modules...

But just to let you know, I do not guarantee this kind of item. I know that they are brand new and I have only tested them. But this kind of item can easily be damaged if somebody was to leave it on too long, especially without a heatsink. Or, if somebody were to turn the pot on the driver...

I understand, I'm sure that I will be careful not to turn the pot when turning the Allen screws and not to turn it on without first getting the heatsink on there. Even then I would stick to a duty cycle of ~1 min/0.5 min.

I'm getting some cash together from underneath the furniture :3.

I keep all of my personal belongings beneath my bed. That's how I roll.

EDIT: Jayrob, does this look like an alright deal? http://www.cr123batteries.com I'm thinking about 5 batteries (rechargeable) and then the charger. CR123's are just so damn expensive store bought.

Re: FS: DIY Green Kit! Host, Heatsink - Easy Assem

Those only say 600mAh's...

The UltraFire's seem to be pretty good for 3.6 volt rechargeable. If you don't want to wait for the cheapest deal from DX, I have bought often form this U.S. based company:

RCR123: http://www.batteryjunction.com/uf16340.html

Charger: http://www.batteryjunction.com/tlunlichfor1.html

I also buy my CR123's there. Because like you said, they are really expensive at the local store. But because they have a 15 year shelf life, you can buy like 12 at a time here for cheap:

Re: FS: DIY Green Kit! Host, Heatsink - Easy Assem

I think someone needs to send a helpful link to all the really cheap cr123 batteries available to duracell and energizer to let them know exactly how much other people are selling these batteries for, and to let them know that we are on to their whole gouge the american people scam.

Re: FS: DIY Green Kit! Host, Heatsink - Easy Assem

Ok so I think I know why the laser is doing this, its because its cold as h#ll up here and once I warm it up in my hands or in the car it works fine. The cold is the culprit!

Re: FS: DIY Green Kit! Host, Heatsink - Easy Assem

That makes sense, I didn't even think of that because it is not cold in my office where I tested it...

yeah do let us know! How I would love to have another focusable green laser! With this style host, I'm sure it can easily be screwed onto the top if made correctly.
