I think those are nice drivers, and you should try to sell them somehow. They are pretty unique considering the only other amc7135 drivers you can get are on those crappy chinese 16mm round boards.

I knew I wasn't in a position to sell any drivers I would make, so I pawned it off on Mohrenberg :) Just something to think about :whistle:

Just got mine today and it is a really nice job there! :)

And just to verify, this is a linear driver correct?

Very stable with a quality Li-Ion battery. Low heat too... :gj:

It's linear, but the dropout voltage is only like 120mV.

So the 4.25v batteries still work for the 3v diodes.

Yep, this is a linear driver. My goals were primarily single-cell driving, and no need to heatsink the driver. I think this design hits that target. I ran one connected to a dummy load, powered by my bench supply, for 12 hours (overnight and into the morning) just for fun - no issues. I think heat is almost an non-issue.

At any rate, just to update everyone. I've got the materials for a bunch more arriving this week. Once they're in, I'm going to take orders for a short little window (maybe 2 or 3 days) for anyone who has been interested but wasn't able to grab one of the initial batch. Then on a more permanent ongoing basis, I think I'm going to get some out to Clif at CL to add to his store.

Clif is a great guy, and it will be a lot easier for you to ship in bulk to him than to try and ship out all over the world and USA individual orders.


I've got a driver coming that uses a single 7135 that slides directly onto the diode and you just use a wire for the + input. It's another one of Ben's designs.

Lol, I did one of those also!

It uses 2x AMC7135s, for ~700mA of current. Wire leads for + and -, but then also can get the - from the case (for case negative builds). The whole thing just slips on the diode's leads, and gets soldered in place. These clean virgin diode leads are spoiling us :)

Cool! Mine isn't a circle though, it just sticks off to one side. Doesn't have any caps either. As long as batteries are the power source it shouldn't need them. I never even thought of just using a to-18 component on the board for connecting to the diode lol I just put the wire connections to the spacing shown on the datasheet. :crackup:

Your traces look a bit thin to me though. I would beef them up.

How do you do those 3d renders of a board?

I have an android app that told me for 1A of current, 1oz copper, and a length of 10mm, I needed 12mil. The current is actually only 0.7A, and I actually went with 20mil traces, so I think I'm ok. I was lazy and sent you an older render though with 15mil traces. Also, there's a 3rd CAP on the later version. Datasheet wants a cathode-ground and anode-ground CAP. I also added a cathode-anode CAP. Not sure it was really needed, but they're cheap, and make me feel better :)

For the renders, grab Pov-Ray for windows. If you google "Eagle 3D Pov Ray" there are a bunch of walk-through. It's super-quick. Turn on anti-aliasing in Pov Ray for really good quality images.

So Ben's will be 350ma?

I was going to say that you could use them for LOCs, but you probably can't on account of the case-negative nature of a LOC, right?
