Actually, i'm more worried about these diodes gradually disappearing. They are diodes from HD-DVD sleds, and the HD-DVD format failed..
If these sleds stop being manufactured, we are left with Blue Ray writers again. And those still cost more than an entire laser with the HD-DVD freak diode.
Even with the format disappearing, the laser hobby alone should keep the PHR-803T sled production alive for a while.
But the initial low price was because the manufacturers and sellers thought no one really wanted them. Now that people are making group buys and large volume purchases all over the place, we could actually see the price go up.
