Frankenstorm

Well I'm without power once again... the rest of my town is up now, won't take too long for ours to get back on I hope. I should probably get the generator running soon, hopefully the everything in the fridge isn't spoiled by now.

Somehow my area of town still has power, and internet. Everyone around me is without power though.

Tons of fallen trees and closed roads.

i live right on the boarder of USA and canada in port huron and there are huge waives in lake huron. i want to go out and get pictures today before work. it's crazy they say there could be as high as 25ft.

well i was able to get some pictures and video's today but think it was worse yesterday but didn't have my camera and it was quite dark when i got out of work. but as i was driving down to the water there was like 30 uprooted tree's or broken branches. the wind was insane down by the water. but this is what i got of lake huron.

I'll have to add the video later i'm having some uploading issues.

Those are nice pictures but something is missing...

Wow, the lake looks really violent there. I passed by the lake over the summer and for the most part is was calm...

As for myself, we have intenet and cable now... but no power. Neighbor's tree got knocked down and fell between their cars... lucky people I tell ya, I'll have a picture hopefully when the power is back

The bridge? If you look close I'm not sure if you can see it but in the original picture be for I uploaded it you can see the flags a torn up bad from the wind.

As a survivor of a few powerful hurricanes.....my prayers and thoughts go out to the affected area's. Its never easy but it does get better quick and you'll find people are alot more friendly in such times.

As an aside: Conspiracy theorists are already screaming HAARP government made storm.

Funny thing NOAA did a drill for the area in 97 with the exact impact path and severity. they called the drilled hurricane SANDY

a strange and ill timed storm. It will impact the election, and many other industries......if your laser is in customs expect longer than long wait times.

Power has gone out a couple of times, but on now. I'm hoping that for my area at least the worst is over.

Coastal and low lying areas are a disaster though. All public transit is still suspended. I think it will be months before everything is truly restored and back to normal.

For tomorrow, I have my office recovery to look forward to... today first floor of the building was in about 3 feet of water. Being on the second floor, it should be fine, but still no fun lugging computers through the muck.

Sorry guys, but no pictures. With the winds being what they were, and a lot of trees around, I was kind of paranoid about going outside. Besides, if you look at pictures I took in the past... I'm no photographer :p

damn.....i was hoping you all in NY had faired better.

keep us posted as to the recovery from a first person standpoint, goodluck and be safe

Lost power monday night, will probly be out until next week
No power at work, but we are perhaps the biggest distributor of traffic cones east of the Mississppi so we are working today.7000 cones to NYC todAy and tomorrow, plus many more as long as the customer comes to us to pick up. One weird thing is driving with all traffic red lights not working

Estimate on repairs in NJ is 5-10 days until power is restored to most people.

Considering the scope of damage, the work being done by the power companies, and the speed with which it is being done is impressive. Though I'm sure I would feel differently if I was stuck without power myself. (To be frank I was not/am not ready for a prolonged blackout, 2-3 days absolute yes, no problem, 5-10 days... no way.)

New York is expected to have power again starting monday.

Meanwhile cell phone coverage is actually deteriorating because all the cell towers that were running on backup generators are running out of power...

Gasoline situation is somewhat scary, but should resolve itself as roads are cleared and power is restored. There are lines at every gas station, and quite a few simply sold out.

My internet has gone out a couple of times today, and my cell phone is acting weird... people unable to call me, calls not connecting, text messages not going through, etc,.

Good luck to you guys without power. You have my extreme sympathy.

So, what ended up actually causing the most damage with this?

I'd be assuming the storm surge flooding out ground level substations and such, as for a category 1 storm the number of people/cities without power is pretty outstanding. I didn't lose power at all during Yasi which was category 5, but funnily enough I lost it for about 4 hours the day after due to some pretty severe storms in it's feeder band.
