First and Third Person shooter Games thread

Didn't play Borderlands nor Resident Evil 6. I player RE5, was awesome, especially in co-op. PC controls are a bit badly ported but...

Hey, what's the news about Far Cry 3?
I hope it's not like Far Cry 2. I hated FC2.

I won't lie I never played the original borderlands but the second one is awesome
I have 30 hours at least and have never seen a duplicate gun. There literally are bazillions of them! Resident evil 6 I've only played a little. Loved 5 and 6 looks to be pretty damn good as well!

Sure as hell not "literally" as bazillion isn't even a number, but you either quoted recent Cracked.com article or the game just really has that affect on people. I'll definitely need to try it out.

Black ops 2 soon :)

Didn't really like original Black Ops. This one any better?

To be honest, I only play zombies on it...black ops itself wasnt upto much. But i'm looking forward to this one.

I don´t like the latest Call of Duty parts, but playes all of them till Black Ops.
Enemies shouldn´t respawn all the time. I hate it. And the play time is cockamamie.
I used to love Call of Duty 4 though.
Multiplayer is not an option cause I play on the PS3 and with gamepad controls quick shootings are horrible.

Hope we gonna see Battlefield Bad Company 3 very soon!

Well, commenting the single-player portion alone:
Black Ops and MW3 sucked.

So basically MW2 was the last Call of Duty with actual single-player campaign. Everything after that was forgettable.

Hopes up that this one makes me play it more than once.

The last first person shooter I played was the first crysis. I loved it, thought the graphics were the best. And then they dumbed it down in order to be playable on xbox... and it became utter crap.

What, Crysis 2, dumbed down graphics?

There is a difference between "dumbing down" and "optimising", people.

Personally, Crysis 2 graphics are among most realistic ones I've ever had the chance to witness on my screen.
And it ran brutally fast even on middle-ranged systems.

Dumbed down? Down from what?

Also, not to mention that Crytech people are such bawsses that they released a full, free SDK to use with CryEngine3:

CryENGINE 3 - Mod DB

If these are dumbed down graphics, I want to see what you would consider "actual" graphics.

Let me clarify what I said:

Crysis 2 is optimized for LOWER SPECS hardware and is dumbed down in comparison to Crysis 1 :) Crysis 1 looks more realistic when compared to crysis 2.

from above :)

ALSO, please read this :)

http://crysis.wikia.com/wiki/CryENGINE_3

While not as graphically stunning as CryENGINE 2, the CryENGINE 3 sported support for consoles, and despite its inability to match up with the old engine in terms of looks, still topped the charts as the best looking game engine to date on seventh generation consoles.

Come on now you don't really think I meant there are a bazillion guns did you? I know that isn't even a real number.........
But no I didn't quote anything that's just how the game is. I played for 2 hours last night on one area where your in a circle ring taking on hundreds of enemies and found like 30-40 guns I haven't seen yet. Just in that one fight.

There's lots of guns that was my point.

@gillza: Yeah but Crysis 1 never actually looked anything like the images you posted, now did it? Actual in-game graphics aren't NEARLY as good, they're just tech-demo of the engine. Tech demo of CryEngine 3 can also look like that, if not even better. So no point in comparing that - comparing the actual in-game looks is what counts. Which is the images I posted.

Actual in game screenshot for actual in game screenshot, Crysis 2 looked, in my opinion, far better than Crysis 1. Not to mention the campaign progression and story was far better.

Also, is it just me, or is everybody speaking about "optimisations" like it's actually a bad thing?

Speaking of tech demos, I hope you've seen the new CryENGINE3 tech demo to be used in Crysis 3, because DAMN.

@JakeGT - Haha I'm just busting your chops a little, ofcourse I didn't really think that. And yeah I totally need to play Borderlands 2 when my new GPU arrives. Won't be long now, I expect it this week.

The point is the cryengine2 was and is bette than cryengine3 at the cost of higher minimal resources. That is why cryengine 3 was purposly (and call it what you will here, i call it dumbed down) dumbed down to run on lower specs hardware and be more appealing to console kiddies. The ingame grahics of crysis 1 was better than that of crysis 2. Crysis 2 looks more like unreal engine, while crysis 1 gives a player a realworld like feeling. There are many examples of this happening in the game industry... I am on the phone and cant get the comparison screenshots to demonstrate the difference.... sorry If you can please post screens of new engine's tech demo for comparison.

Nah, screens don't do it justice, you really need to see the video. Just youtube it, you'll find it right away.

Anyway, my take on those two engines is a bit different than yours - Simply because CryEngine 2 is more complex and hardware demanding, does not make it better.

It's different to compare directly, let me try explaining it this way:

Even though you can technically achieve pretty-much-real looking GFX in Engine 2, it cannot possibly be used, because it will run shoddy on even the beefiest computers today.
The highest quality GFX that can actually be used in an actual game (maintaining playable framerates across variety of hardware) is not higher than the quality of GFX that can be achieved with Engine 3 (Crysis 2/3).

So maybe this sort of sum up can clear up a bit better the ideas I'm trying to present:
Highest graphical quality achievable = CryENGINE 2
Highest graphical quality usable = CryENGINE 3

Unless ofcourse, you are not making a game but a cinematic - Engine 3 got that covered too. They also did a recent tech-demo representing the Engine 3's Cinematic capabilities. They were not insignificant, but then again, not quite the level of realism to be called "completely photorealistic" yet.

What I would call the highest quality photorealism I've seen yet, is Unreal Engine's "Samaritan" tech demo. If you did not yet, I suggest finding that on youtube as well.

I do have to agree that UE3 does not offer quite the graphical quality like other engines, but seriously, that thing will run on pocket calculators (almost).

I will have to disagree on Crysis 2 not looking real and immersive though. It looked mighty fine to me.

ohhh... if youd be seing what im seein in gym at work right now... i have never seen such running action on baywatch.... gameengines < BOOBS :)

Sarcastic remark understood, all underlying messages understood.

Implications behind the need for sarcasm understood. Go pout. I win :na:

And here I was spending 15 minutes taking screenshots of the new tech-demo for ya'. Not needed, then?
