Final Stage: Battle Royale

Never ending kidney pain. 25 years and counting (issue started when I was about 23). Have to wear a fentanyl patch to bring lower my overall pain to a somewhat reasonable level. Fight it out everyday to continue working. Stop moving and you start dying;)
The biggest reason why I have so many units/builds (lets just say well over a 100) is this is great "therapy" as jimmy stated. Helps keep the mind occupied so I'm not just thinking about how uncomfortable I am.
Thus the reason for my tutorials on how to do things for little $. This is the only forum that I am actively involved in and have made some really great friends here. I would like to think that I have contributed back and try to as much as I can.

Pete

Thanks for hosting such a great idea/project LZB and to all those who contributed their ideas and LOTS of time we are all the better for it:) I personally appreciate all your efforts.
I feel.your pain ...i thought i was the only oldy on the forum .Obviously not I'm over 50 i was begining to wonder if i was alone in ( middle age) lol ..Congrats on the winners well done guys loved both but you can only have one favorite ...

:wave:I have been busy. Grandpas front porch started crumbling after 65 years of service.

The luzy, she is very nearly finished. Fills me with a vague sadness.

Waiting in the bushes in the front yard for the mail man again. I might be giving him post traumatic stress disorder. :tinfoil:

Looking good Jimmyoneeye!

I'll extend the final date to Nov 7th to allow for shipping time ;)

Awesome! Extension! Thanks! I think my mailman might pepper spray me! Ill give him a break.

As a side point on the design. I wasn't trying to design a Uzi shaped laser. I modified and improved the 445 box shown in my picture to the left to accommodate the c-mount and a reliable cooling system. When I finished the drawing I noticed the similarity and went with it by choosing the micro Uzi trigger guard and sights shape. The rear sight is entirely unnecessary except as a grip to better control the cooling cracker. The front and rear sight can be removed without effecting function. I added a switch in the battery compartment that makes it so you can turn one of the x-drives off to run it at 3600 if cooling cartridges are unavailable. 3600, HEHE turn it down! to 3600! hehe. Makes me a bit nervous.

I need the diode to adjust the focal lengths! Jimmyoneeye shouts in a dr. Strangelove voice

I'm glad you won, jimmy. I really wish I had the chance to make my phaser, but you're design is so innovative, so fresh, and so unique, that the forums needs to see it.

Great work. +however many I give.

Congrats to the winners! Can't wait to see the final products. I hope we get some good driver to get max power out of these diode !!!!

Thanks Wolfman. Don't give up on the phaser. You gotta believe it will still exist. Its just a question of time.

A package arrived today... May be the one?

Just a short update on the “ Lawgiver II “ See Pics. Two (2) improvements to the monitor systems; Larger Temp monitor with both analog and digital read-out and a five (5) digit resolution VDC meter to monitor the 11.1 VDC LiPo cell pack. The temp. monitor will now be located on the back side of the unit.

The logic behind these improvements are;

1) The MOST important metric is the temp. monitor. The re-location of this meter to the unit rear face has been done to put this info in direct sight of the unit operator. The addition of an analog display should also aid in keeping a careful watch over extrapolated LD temp.

2) The increase in resolution for the LiPo cell VDC monitor will provide an increased accuracy in watching over the LiPo pack VDC state. Below 9.0 VDC, and the LiPo pack will be damaged. A fully charged pack will read 12.6 VDC. The Lipo pack is an Venom 5000 mAh for 55.5 Watt Hrs and a 20C discharge rating. At an projected 9 Amp draw.....the pack should last approx 30 minutes total power on time. I will follow the 80/20 rule and NOT discharge the pack below 20% capacity. I use a computer controlled, cell balancing LiPo battery charger for max cell life.

See the attached pics of both meters. Received the LAZ-650-C from DTR today…(Thanx). Waiting on the PBS from Germany.

See the detail pic of the optical path way. Note that the lenses/lens holders,PBS and bounce mirror will ALL be mounted to a bronze 3/16” sub plate. This plate will then be mounted to the underside of the ½” Aluminum Heat sink/Optical platform. This has always been the plan, but I thought I would point out this detail. The reason for this two-part design is to allow for complete control over setting and locking in the optimal 50mm focal length. To obtain the best focus to infinity, such flexibility is always desirable.

I have not decided on the use of a TE unit to further lower the system temp. That MAY be an add-on for later ??? November 7th is less than a month away….and I have MUCH work to do !!!

With the cost of all these components…..For now !!! Form MUST follow function !!!! Perhaps….when this C-Mount is fully explored and completely understood….an improved form will emerge !!!....I would truly like to see a dual C-mount design ...fit inside the “ Ray Gun “ shell....see the pic !!!!!....Note: Even the Ray Gun has a temperature monitor !!! hahaha

Thanx again for all your support !!!!

The beautiful golden diode of legend and the no2 cartridges arrived other day! The no2 is nice and cold and I have been busy. I wired the drives and switches. I made a battery retainer latch. I cut the frame so the receiver tube can come straight out of the top instead of sliding out. This makes it much easier and faster to disassemble at the cost of a little beauty. I also cut the rear of the bottom of the front sight to allow the lens tube to be removed without removing the button guard.

I must admit I am nervous about drilling the diode placement hole. I am more of a sculptor than a technician or machinist. :undecided: I'm going to borrow a mill vise.

It is kind of like counting hairs. I have a very powerful magnifying glass and my best guess is 20 to 25.
picture is worth a thousand words. they are very close together.
