Hey everyone. If you take a look at my signature, you can see that I am working on developing my wavelength collection. Right now, most of the lower-wavelength colors have been achieved, and some of the higher ones have been achieved, too (660nm and 780nm). The rainbow looks good, the only thing it's missing is a yellowish wavelength.

And, because I managed to save two grand with my summer job, which was my goal, I now get to spend any remaining money from my last two weeks or so of work that I earn. I am making about $250 for this week, possibly another $250 or so for the next week.

So, I may have up to $500 to spend on a yellowish laser.

Of course, I am looking for a 589nm or a 593.5nm laser - those are the best ones, of course! But, I am looking for a laser who's beam I will be able to see at night. Not really that concerned about seeing it in a lit room (can barely see my green ~140mW in a well-lit room, so... yeah). However, I do want to be able to see a clear beam on a dark night.

So, I guess what I am asking here is, does anyone have any specific recommendations? I am a beam guy, but also a color guy - I want all the colors, but also I want to be able to see those beams (dots aren't as incredible to me).

Links please? Suggestions? Or, if you find a great 473nm blue, that would be cool too (my only 473nm right now is a bulky labby, also kind of want a higher-powered handheld, but that may be later if I can get a yellow instead).

Thanks everyone!

I saw that. Just, I want to be able to spend all my funds on one laser, and I didn't see anywhere that would be like a $500 473nm for ~50mW or whatever, you know what I mean?

EDIT: I know I probably won't find ~50mW of 473nm for $500, but that was just an example.

Agh! The only one that looks decent to me is this one: Spartan Series 50mW Orange Handheld Laser.

And, it's out of my budget -.-

And I will take a look at that 473nm... may be a good one.

(Wolfman29 / scopeguy20) That's the first reference that I looked up; LaserGlow. (Too expensive for MY meager budget). If it's LaserGlow, it should be good though (I have one excellent buying experience from them). Probably IR filtered. (?) >20mw yellow should make a nice fairly visible beam, I think.

With all the recent flak concerning previously-good chinese sites gone-bad, I would be hesitant to order from DL, et al.

@Scopeguy: I don't understand - aren't most of these lasers supposedly right ON spec, not way overspec, like yours?

@JBTexas: Yeah, I heard LG was good. Expensive though.

@DJNY: When we say >10mW, how much > are we talking? My heart is mostly set on a yellow/amber color - 473nm is only if I can't get a decent yellow for $500.

CNI lasers are often overspec, sometimes underspec, sometimes non working / bad working (unstable, bad beam specs)

Gonna check out how many mW of 589nm you can get for $500.

Problem is, shipping is ~$50 and wire transfer ~$20 when ordering directly through CNI.

But they do offer warranties, yeah? I wouldn't mind overspec, but I would certainly mind underspec (at least if it was to a large degree - wouldn't really mind 48mW instead of 50mW). And if ordering directly through CNI means I will get the best of power/price, I will be willing to pay an extra $70.

You have 6 or 12 months warranty (don´t know right now). They also cover re-shipping during this time.

I always prefer ordering directly through CNI, although they´re giving different prices to different people. If you can wait 24 hours, I can ask for you and come back with the quote.

Hmm. Sure. I probably won't have the money for another two weeks or so anyway.

Wolfman;

Just to be clear... I was assuming that this laser Scopeguy is offering you is a laserglow:
Rigel 3-4 mW I Love it PGL III 593.5nm 5 mW, doing >20 mW!
(I might be wrong)
