False Cheap 589's






Hopefully these searches through alibaba reveal some good "hidden" companies. I really want to see this happen (still not sure with lasever, they seem VERY good, but I don't know for sure yet)

for the 150mW pointer, I clicked on it just to see what they're trying to fake. It's sad....
As for laserglow: That sounds.. amazing. But, wouldn't a sodium laser be stronger? that'd be a neat thing to own.
 
I don't know exactly what "cheap" will be, but whatever it is, I think we'll see it from the 561nm wavelength before either 589 or 593.

I know that sounds ridiculous since 561s are so rare right now while tons of forum members have 589/593. But while ridiculous sounding, it's logical.

561 DPSS is a familiar process. It's ND:YAG, and it's frequency doubling. 561 is very similar to the process for 532. Both 589 and 593 are much more complicated.

There are a ton of people making 532nm DPSS units out there (in China and elsewhere). Many of these manufactures would be capable of producing 561nm without too much pain. 589/593 would be a different story.

So is there incentive to making 561nm DPSS units? Not a ton, there isn't huge demand. But if a 532nm DPSS module maker realizes that they can sell a 1mW 561nm module for $100 bucks, it might not take a huge demand in order to make that a worthwhile brief diversion from making 100mW 532nm modules that sell for $25.

I'd rather have 561 than 589 to be honest. I love yellow, but you can't beat near peak visibility and the greenish yellow. 570 would be my dream.
 
You guys have to understand that Alibaba doesn't represent actual products in hand.

It's just a "catalog" of vague-reasonable-sounding items that the listing entities are theoretically able to source. It's not a "stock listing".

If you see a CNI GLP pointer listed, it's not something that the seller actually has in-hand at all of the wavelengths listed. It's just an offer to basically resell you that item, but the seller likely (in fact almost certainly) does not have the actual product until they contract with you for its sale.

A lot of CNI items on CNI's own website are "theoretical" in the sense that they don't actually have any of them produced, until someone actually orders one (then they make it). It's the same with Alibaba, but once further removed.

So it's pretty silly to get hopes up based on anything you see on that site. 150mW 589nm GLP doesn't exist in the seller's hands, nor does it exist in CNI's hands, nor likely (in that case) could such a model even be produced if you inquired.

Sorry guys. I completely appreciate (and encourage) the bargain-seeking mentality, especially with exotic wavelengths. But you have to understand that Alibaba listings are not actual bona fide offerings.

Whoa! Another Pennsylvanian! I'd much rather something around 575nm, according to various tools on the internet that's a full "solid" yellow color. Though, 571.6nm (with SOME efficiency) is "feasible" through DPSS (all that would need to be done is a frequency summation of Nd:YAG's 946 and 1444nm lines.)

On laserglows site it Says they can produce a 2500mW 589 lab laser.

2.5W of 589? That would be better than sex.

The biggest 589nm laser I've personally seen was just over 700mW.

... it was every bit as amazing as it sounds.
