False Cheap 589's

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

I'd say 593.5 is definitely "gold" and not yellow, 594.1 is even more golden/orange. People say you can't tell the difference, but I really disagree. 589nm is the Sodium D line in spectroscopy, and the first thing I thought when I fired up my 593.5 was "wow, that is NOT the D line!". There is a pronounced difference to my eyes, cameras can't seem to replicate it though.

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

Some cameras can, one of my buddies owns a photography studio and their cameras managed to pick up a noticable difference between 488nm and 473nm (don't have yellow to compare... yet...)

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

Those prices are only prices to get you intdrested. I have a quote from them with prices at $335 for5mW plus $45 DHL shipping. I have bought from the company earlier (green laser), which was of extreme low quality. The spring felt off, the laser died after five minutes of use and while it was working it was underspec. But, 700mW isn't something I really could expect in a pen, but even though it should atleast be 300mW. It was 25mW in my case. The picture of it was that one you see on this listing but I received it as a newwsih pen. That was a $110 loss.

Don't eve pay with Western Union which is what they'll prefer, you aren't protected. Pay with credit card; your company will help you to chargeback.

I got a laser safety goggles with it, they are transparent plastic goggles. They are a supposedly OD6+.....

Thanks.

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

Oh god... really? I'm really hoping that's not a false price. If it is I'll steer away from these people, there's another bulk site that I found, hopefully that's not a failure as well.

And sites with magically cheap laser pointers often do not give what they are supposed to give. Most people who buy a 593.5 pointer doesn't know it's yellow, they guess that the red color or pink dot (IR) is 593.5, 589 or 473 (whichever they bought).

EDIT: This is only what I have heard from friends buying from alibaba here.

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

if these are legit and prices are cheap, i'd be VERY interested in a gb if there were to be one! :)

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

$ 0.10 for a $300 item. No way it's a translation error.

Better if it's an error, because what does a $.10 say about how the factory in China is treating it's workers?

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

Eh, I'm more and more inclined to think it's a scam. the closest price I managed to find for a 589nm is a bit over $100. Anyway, I'm still going for it regardless until I get a definite price.

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

There is no way in hell anyone here is going to be buying any laser at 589nm or 594nm of any power for less than $100. Stop being ridiculous. LOL.

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

Yeah I was gonna say. Come on guys if it were that easy..... Well, never mind.... You get the point.

I hope

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

I figure they've got to do something with all the failed and reject 593.5/589 modules... that process isn't tamed yet to the point that every run produces 100% working lasers. This is probably someone selling from the scrap bin. Could get lucky...

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

You think if they screw one up they just throw the complete laser away? You don't think they would strip down the hosts and drivers and what not to reuse the parts? If there's a scrap bin I would assume it would be completely scrapped lasers with no output whatsoever

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

I don't know to be honest, but I do know the crystals in these lasers are not very expensive, nor are the diodes, nor are the brass housings, and everything is epoxied together during initial production. I would imagine it would cost more for them to dissassemble everything (because of the epoxy) and reprocess it for a second try than to just grab another off the production line. The cost we see is mostly due to how hard it is to get the damn thing working, not the cost of parts and in china I don't think production (labor) costs factor in at all in any meaningful way. There isn't $500 worth of parts in a Rigel HV, it's $500 of luck + binning (plus shipping, overhead, profit margins, etc). The manufacturer would make a mighty huge profit from these if every laser they put together works (or if they reprocessed them so they all work) and there would be a huge surplus of pointers. I just don't see that as the case.

Re: LOL Cheap 589's

This would not be the first time a supplier listed false prices for a product on Alibaba to bait potential buyers. It is all over Alibaba. That is just one of the ways these companies bait people. I responded to a listing only a few days ago inquiring about a 473nm PGL style that had a $3XX price tag. The actual price quoted was well over $500. By the way....did you guys know the word gullible isn't listed in wikipedia?
