I've found an eBay seller who sells lasers with those little screws on the Driver that you can simply turn to up the laser's power. (Cheapie 5mW Green laser pen)

If anyone is interested in this, just post!
 





It doesn't work like that; the diode can only handle so much current. You will likely end up killing the laser.
 
About 80% of the lasers on Ebay are already potmodded!
So if you increase the current, you will just destroy the laser!

EDIT: Forgot to tell you about the drill method! It works with all kinds of lasers and makes them burn immediately! :D

Great chance that these "5mW" green penlasers have more output than stated.
50mW isn't unusual now and you can buy them for $4-$5.

Potmodding is obsolete now :)
 
Do NOT pot mod lasers for gods sake.

Think of it as trepanning for lasers!
 
Burgers are $5. Doesn't mean sifting 2 cups of salt onto them is a good idea.
 
A easy mehod on really cheap green lasers is it to build a 9mm diode Inside the laser the most powerful 9mm 808nm laser diode that i found was 2000mW you can get with good cooling and other optics up to 800mW !!!! and that for may 60$ top that !
 
Thats a pretty good idea, Now show us some results so we can get more fascinated by this beautiful laser castle you just made in the air!
 
Ok i will invest now in a diode and a suitable housing i will Post it in i think early 2013 cause i didn't have any of the parts needed here

Very good crystals that can handle 2Watts of 808nm
to produce 532nm are about 25% efficient.

With a 2000mW 808nm LD in a Laser Pointer designed
for 5mW using the cheapest crystals you will be lucky
to get ~100- 150mW of 532nm Laser power before the
crystals get damaged...IMO

But let us know how you heatsinked and powered that
5mW eBay Laser Pointer and of course the max Laser
power output after the IR filter...

I'm thinking that we should just let them experiment and see what happens. Sometimes children need to touch the hot stove to understand that it can burn.
