Your last ones were projecting a rectangle?!? Uncollimated? So with a lense you had a square beam? How is this possible?

You had rectangular beams? HOW? ;D

I remember seeing one diode project a semi-square, but i kept it because it seemed to me like the crystal was f**ked! It really showed a border square and the inside was barely lit.

How was yours?

yeah man. it pissed me off. 3 of the 5 had square/rectangular beams. and i could swear there was an orangish inside the square. oh well. hopefully these will be good

All of mine, close up, give a rectangle, focused at a distance it is not noticable.

You know, if mine put out square beams, i wouldn't care, as long as they were bright.. But instead they are undead now.. Zombies of sorts..

They both need 220mA of current, and only put out a couple of mW.. Since it's impossible for a blue ray to take that current and not die, but they still make a visible beam with some smoke, they must be undead. You can imagine how hot they get, and the output starts dropping if i don't cool them A LOT.. If i had a choice between square beams and zombie LDs, i would choose the square ones... ;)


On the other hand, it is possible, that my zombies are square. Need to check..

fyi, the square ones had about a 20mrad divergence and were not bright at all....they were less than impressive

Were you the one, who put a picture on a thread somewhere around here and said you see a red stripe in the middle of the spot?

Oh. Didn't know that.. I thought they were just square.. :) In that case it is quite likely, that my zombie is sqare.. Because my first one was also less than impressive from the start.

The second one was much brighter untill i touched it.

I remember that.. But i didn't notice anything like that in the picture.. Did you see it in the pic as well, or only when you were looking at it directly?


I do know, that when you have a good blue ray, the spot looks very unusual. No camera can really capture what it looks like.. But mine looked almost blueish-white for the two minutes it was working perfectly...


I think each of us sees this colour a little differently. It's very close to the lower visible treshold.. Maybe that has something to do with it.
Otherwise, it should be impossible for it to put out any other colour, than violet.


Anyway, i really hope you have better luck with this group buy.. I also hope, i have better luck.. They do seem to vary widelly in output.. I wonder what percentage of these replacement sleds would really work in a PS3...

alsoooo...when i move the dot really fast back and forth, it looks like its somewhat pulsed..not like the sonar, but it looks like theres something going on. i think in one of the candlepowerforums reviews someone stated the same thing

I don't know... How bright are yours? My first one was less bright, than the 5mW red, that comes in AixiZ modules, but the second one was MUCH brighter, for the minute it worked..

When i went to look at the dot from up close, it was so bright, it looked almost white...


But since it's impossible for them to put out more than one wavelength, it has to be in our perception of it..


I think the colour you see could be a result of an after image (retinal inertia).

I don't think I meant that... we do have the count... I just gave the 2 week notice a week ago... This Wednesday is the closing date for payments for both GB's. Funds should be out by the end of the week... :D

Can I pay for one this Wednesday evening, the 12? I wouldn't be able to order it earlier (for unrelated reasons), but there is a slight chance that I may be able to order it Tuesday afternoon. Would that be ok? How many diodes are left anyways?
