No jerry I am just saying it can go either way. You don’t always have to take sides you can bring up the good and bad and what you agree with on both sides to be a neutral person.

Lol it's been a while I know that but even then some new people just don't know about it yet and would influence their answers to say yes for super moderators.

I don't think short-term mods would work.. c0ld has to draw up contracts with every single mod which is expensive and time consuming - there is no way he could do that with new members every month. Also, if we constantly had to vote for new mods, we would probably spend more time on that than we have spent time on self-moderating.
I say we choose 3-4 mods and have the same ones for at least 6 month terms (unless they step out of line of course).
I also think the forum has existed so long now that we know some people who can really be trusted 99.99% even when in power.

I agree, I voted yes but only if Cold is covered under all circumstances if anything does go wrong.

I herd the story about the old mod that was here, and I don't think we want cold having to pay out a lot of money again to fix an issue.

We all know that there are dishonest and crooked cops...
but you just can't get rid of all the cops...
else people would be running in the streets taking care of business
themselves...
We need a "Police Force" to at least keep the peace...IMO

i agree that ideally mods could be very helpful. going to schedule a call w/ my lawyer to see if we can create mod contract.. if this works out i know who i would have in mind for mods=)

I still can't understand all the legal issue. Why do we need to make contracts? Are mods supposed to earn money?

Just adding a line on the legal terms of the forum saying something like:

Laserpointerforums isn't responsible of what their members or moderators write.

As far as I know, I think the mod said something and then C0ld got held responsible. A contract just makes sure NOTHING can go wrong, where a terms and conditions can be arguable, a contract is 100% legally bound.

I see what you are saying here, but he joined our forum, he is not a guest here on holiday. Guests cant vote. If you became a US citizen, you would be able to vote in elections. I don't know how old he is, but I doubt he is a baby too.

I agree with you on the mod. This is the only forum I belong to that doesn't have one. Other forums I belong to have had mods for many years and are doing just fine. Some of the rules on these other forums are rather strict too. Much of the drama that happens on here wouldn't have lasted long at all on these other sites.

He registered to the forums, this for me is the same than allowing someone to enter your country. It doesn't mean he automatically has the right to elect. Anyway, it was just an example and a comparasion, don't put them out of context hehe

Sadly a disclaimer is often not sufficient in itself.. I am only a couple of weeks into Contract Law at university but there are SO many factors which can make a disclaimer null and void that you wouldn't believe it. Some people think it's as easy as saying "You agree that I am not responsible for any damage to persons or property" and thats that.. but just look at the disclaimer on a common software CD. It can be 50+ pages saying almost nothing, but covering their ass 100%.

I hope c0ld gets a contract made

I say we should have mods BUT they should only be post mods able to delete/lock/edit threads and not be able to banish people. Reason for this is that I believe having 3 or 4 post mods will be able to control the troll fests and flame wars that have been going without the risk of people being banned because of personal vendettas which happened before. If anyone needs to be banned, people will make their cases to the mods who will investigate and come to a conclusion which will presented to c0ld who will have the last say. This means c0ld does not have to waste his time trying to investigate it himself and means there is less chance of mod abuse of power.

Edit: I think my idea would have worked well even in the situation with DAOO, the post mods could have locked/deleted all his sale threads while it was investigated, preventing anyone else from bieng scammed while the evidence was collected and presented to c0ld.

P.S. I know I have not been here long, only 1 month, but I feel that the presence of moderators on the forum would serve to stop alot of the flaming/bashing that has been happening recently. please do not disregard my vote because of my low post count. I genuinly do believe it would help the forum...all other forums that I belong to have moderators and it does seem to stop such things...:angel:

Albert I understand where you are coming from, I really do but as a member of this forum I do believe I have a right to post my opinion of the matter. I have done my research and come to conclusion based off what I have read.

I don't jump to conclusions or answers without carefully weighing both sides of the issue. My account may be new here but I have been reading these forums for the past couple of months and only recently decided to join.

Now if that disclaimer of "don't vote here noobs" had been here originally, than I would have respected that and not put my 2 cents in.

You know what amazes me though? The vets here love you if you agree with them but immediately jump on you and call you a noob if you disagree with them. I voted in the Ban DAoO thread, gave my opinion after weighing the facts and was praised by the vets for being so community minded and thinking things through. However when I decided to disagree with the vets in this thread, my post count is called into question and I'm suddenly a baby who can't make an informed decision. Excuse me, but what the hell kind of message does that send? Forgive my anger but it's ridiculous from my point of view.

While I may be a new member to this forum I have been a frequenter of many other forums over the years, I made my vote and decision based of prior knowledge and what I have seen here the last few months and weeks.

I'm sorry if I crossed the line by voting, but I figured that since I was a member I could at least give my opinion.

I agree and I see what your saying Rob. Just because your post count is low , doesnt mean you are less informed.

The bad thing is when a user with over 1500 posts votes no , then recants because they didnt read everything or made an uninformed decision.
