Uh Oh. I might be stepping into it or stirring up something now but...
Firstly I will say that I read this thread and had no idea what it was related too. I figured out it was about some pricing issue concerning something and looked around for more.
Then I found a thread concerning a pricing for a mobile app and figured that this is probably what it's about.
So now to comment a bit on some of the items in THIS thread :
The first comment about "censoring" the forum - As far as I know, this whole thing is here because of one person starting it up. As long as his name is the one that signs the payments being made to keep it all up then, just to be honest, he has all the power and right to do as he sees fit with it. That being said, if he abuses the rights/privileges of this position then the forum will wither and die, like has been pointed out.
I think that Avery has quite a good grasp on things and even takes his lumps from members quite willingly for most things. Every instance of a thread being eliminated or deleted is usually based on solid grounds, even if everybody doesn't agree with it.
The replies concerning Avery wanting some retribution for all his efforts is not out of line or unfair. He simply wants to try to reduce his losses on a project that was undertaken for the good of the forum community that, it looks like, is taking far more than anticipated.
Looking at the other thread concerning pricing supports this conclusion. There are ongoing issues that are demanding more & more from him to keep up. Some compensation should be awarded but there is no way for it to happen without him bringing it forward in some way. He has done this now.
Then an offer to secure qualified voluntary assistance was suggested. This is a good idea initially but the application and logistics will be significantly difficult, as was alluded to in subsequent postings. As the one suggesting this can not perform the duties, while it is a good concept it may be considered as not applicable, unless someone else can fill in.
The comment about the participation of the “Admin” in the forum is a bit narrow-minded and full of emotion. If you take a look at just how much activity and how many members occurs even on a daily basis you would realize that there is no way to be involved in ALL of them. The part that Avery plays here is, by definition, behind the scenes. He is what makes it all work as well and seamlessly as it does. He collects the billings, pays the bills, keeps the lights on, and performs a growing quantity of “pest control” ! He massages the lumps, fills in the potholes, and puts out the fires. He also has a full time job that he must spend at least a little time working on or his employer might reduce his pay.
(Sorry to skip you Dave, but your even-tempered words of wisdom never require further comment. Your eloquence speaks for itself.)
I find no fault in the “Admin” introducing the topic that concerns him in his own forum. How it was done may be a matter for debate but that would be another issue that detracts from the main one so let that go for now.
So the question remains, how can Avery be expected to spend more & more time involved in this ever growing forum (and resulting spin-offs) without being compensated ? What would you do in his place ?
Any helpful suggestions, I'm sure would be appreciated.
