CPU Overclocking

i have only seen this happen in nvidea cards....never ati....hence why i say nvidea sucks.
 





Damn sorry about those caps....get a 4870 or a couple of 4770's :)

Never had that issue with any nvidia card I have owned, I swear by them, especially evga, the warranty is amazing, it's lifetime, and you can OC the fuck out of a card and they will still send you a new one, then they have the step up program, they are an excellent company. I looked into it and it's common in the 7600's from evga, I know they will give you another for free. Good luck.
 
When I used Nvidea, I always had either BFG or EVGA Graphics cards. Which is probably why I now hate Nvidea cards and Chipsets.

EVGA TECHNICAL SUPPORT SUCKS.
They have absolutely no clue as to what they are talking about. Their only way to fix things is to tell you to ship in their item at your cost and then they will ship you back a refurb card. From that point you have a 50% chance that your new refurb card wont work.

It's the same way with their MOBOs too. I had a MOBO from them that craped out.... First one died in a week. Second and third was DOA. 4th one lasted about a month. 5th one ran for about 7 weeks. That's when I gave up all hope for that company and said forget EVGA.

FYI: 2 of those MOBO took the processor with it. Guess who refused to replace those Processors?

I have never in my life had such a bad experience trying to get a mother board to work. Needless to say, I switched to ASUS and I haven't had a problem with a MOBO for years.

There are companies that make ATI cards that have the same warrante, but most of the time I wont buy from those companies because it's usually just a gimmic just like EVGA.

Me neither, after my radeon 9600 died i have gone from Xpertvision 6600GT> XFX 7600GT> current card Gainward 8800GT. Next card will probably be a GTX260+.
 
I've had a pair of high-end (at the time) nVidia cards. One of which decided to de-solder the capacitors off itself. I sent it back to the distributor with clear instructions as to what was broken, they just sent it back to me after a few days, in exactly the same condition as it was when I sent it. It still works perfectly, however. When I upgrade, I suspect I'll go with a 4870 or 4890 depending on cost.

If you want a really low-cost machine for torrents, I run an Intel Atom NAS and windows server. It works amazingly for the price (£225 for a 1tb machine, 2gb ram, quiet case, dual-core 1.6ghz). With a copy of server 2003, it performs very well indeed.

Yes, I like Asus, my first mobo was an Asus. probably still going strong somewhere in the world. No problem with any one my evga parts right now though, I love my 780i FTW board.
 
Has anyone tried using Prime95 for overclocking? I first read about it in PC Magazine I think. It searches for very large prime numbers and seems to be a great stress tester to see if an system is stable.

I just use Windows, enough stress for the CPU :p
 
I've used it many times. It works great.. If you run it for for 12 hours (or more if you want) and your CPU/memory doesn't fail, your OC is stable.
 
True dat nikokapo. My computer sucks. If I used Prime95 on my computer ElectroFreak, it would fail in less than 10 minutes.
 
I have a Q6600 Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz, I heard it isn't hard to overclock them to 3.0, so I might try that in the next few months....I have a ridiculous amount of cooling, so I should be fine.

I originally got the CPU and graphics card (BFG 8800GT 512MB) for gaming, but all I use my computer now for is my online business, and trust me, making money IN REAL LIFE is much more fun to me. :)
