Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two
i have no idea why the 3D renders are gold an yellow. It must be something with the settings...didnt bother me much so i never dug around to change it.
ok heres the render of the focus knob that will cost total $30 for 10pcs shipped to your door.
community input needed. So far we got 2 choices, the simple cheaper one or the more cooler slightly more expensive one. $30 or $50. Im fine with either one, both have their merits and both fit the criteria of what this project is about.
I will try to get another "cool" looking design out as well.
Also not that I am keeping the size as the agreed upon standard of 19mm diameter and 8mm thinkness.
Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two
They will need to use a bottoming tap and their machines may not be set up for this. If you guys want to save some money you could have someone with a tap set tap all these with a bottoming tap. That would fix your error AND reduce the price per unit quite a bit I would imagine.
If their machines arnt set up to tap such shallow threads this might be your only option as I cant imagine having them custom setup the machine will be cheap.
Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two
ok heres another design I have. This time its basically the same design, done two ways. One way, the design cuts are done all the way through while the 2nd design has it cut in only 3mm. With the straight through design, I had to lose the lip since it would only leave .2mm of metal left. anyways, I was told by the softway, the final render would not like exactly like the pictures. The cutter is a round cutter than would essential leave rounded edges instead of sharp corners. Those corners affected are highlighted in yellow.
and heres design 2:
these both came out to the same price. It was $3.51 for the first and $3.77 for the second. It should come out to 10pcs = $45-$48 shipped.
once again feedback is much appreciated since this is a community effort, I want the community to fine tune the final product.
Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two
Here's my final concept render:
The final product would/should look something like that - I used rounded corners that the bit should be able to reproduce as shown. The price breakdown is basically a bit under $40 per 10 pcs, so I think the target of $50 for a 10 pack would work (as long as the GB was run from the US)
Essentially if we like this design, I would want at least two additional people in this thread (or on the forum) to let us send them the .EMS file so that they could open it in the emachineshop software, and give the design a once-over.
Once TWO people double check it, I think we could responsibly open this up and get things in motion, no ?
Re: Community Focus Knob - Group Development / Group Buy - Take two
Lol Stevie - no - neither of our opinions count
We need two fresh sets of eyes to take a look at the CAD and double-check that our work makes sense. Before we get that, I wouldn't be comfortable taking money from the forum.
Remember, there's always an inherent risk that something about the design is wrong. We need to do everything possible to minimize that risk for everyone, before we can responsibly run a group buy, and collect money from people.
For the record, it's the tap that I'm most concerned about, because that makes or breaks the design.
