IMO cannabis is basically just a safer and better alternative to alcohol when used responsibly and there's absolutely NO valid/non-debunked reasons to keep it illegal while more dangerous drugs ARE legal.

Look I won't pretend that mj is completely 100% safe and nonaddictive. There are some health issues from super heavy use and it can be psychologically addictive to some individuals. However in the grand scheme of things it IS safer and healthier than alcohol in most ways and DEFINITELY better than tobacco. So I simply ask this: Why SHOULD it be illegal? If you wanna ban alcohol/tobacco/energy drinks and all other drugs then that's cool, but you can't hypocritically nitpick which ones to ban and which not to.

Look at it like this. What would cause greater long term costs to society? 1-Legalize mj and deal with the moderate/light social costs and health issues while raking in big money from all the industrial/medical/recreational benefits OR 2-Continue fighting this war against a plant which will NEVER EVER be won and continue paying billions per year to ruin lives and lock people up over a freaking plant? People will NEVER quit smoking weed so let's at least mitigate some of the harms, stop ruining lives and make some money/help sick people/benefit from industrial hemp.

Cant believe I never saw this, and that no other colorado member has chimed in, though it's pretty much just me and ultimatekaiser.

I think it's a good thing but it has created a lot of grey area. lots of places have "opted out" meaning establishments selling the stuff are not allowed. I guess it's like a dry county, but for weed. I feel like it's town councils trying to legislate and combat what the people wanted and voted for. my town for example, said they did not want them and banned all dispensiaries (that had been in the news for lifting up the economy) the town council said it didnt want the revenue from sales because it was "drug money". what fools. regulation always works better than prohibition, the stuff still gets sold, but when its private "dealers", the state gets no revenue. this should have been a no brainer but lots of old timers who watched "reefer madness" too much are still in charge, when they all kick the bucket things might really pick up speed.

I do personally feel it's B.S. that an employer can fire you for something you did on your own time weeks before. Imagine if your job could fire you for having a couple beers on the weekend. it is what it is.

I think it's funny the super bowl this year was between the two states that legalized. get it?, "Super Bowl" I don't give a crap about football, but lots of people here were so mad when the Broncos got creamed.

There are far worse things to be worried about that the dangers of legalization of marijuana imho.

I like to drink. I drink a lot. However, I think alcohol and behavior under the influence of alcohol poses a far greater threat to self and others than being under the influence of marijuana. I am for legalization and heavy taxation. In fact, I am for the extreme taxation of all recreational substances. It serves as an alternative income source for the state(s).

I see the criminalization of illicit drugs as similar to parents keeping too tight a leash on their kids and go on to watch them swing too far on the wild end of the spectrum when finally free from control. All things in moderation.


Of course, you shouldn't listen to me. I support capital punishment for animal abusers.

It's cheaper to lock em up and throw away the key. Plus life in jail is worse than none at all IMO.

Marijuana prohibition is over; Colorado and Washington are just the first of many more that will legalize and regulate. I think it's great that they've taken this stand and are engaging in open rebellion against the federal government's unjustified stand on marijuana. It's only a matter of time before others follow, and where I estimated that things might change in 20 or 30 years, I've dropped that number down to 10 years, tops.

If I could buy smoke pot legally I would probably never drink again. Alcohol brings out nothing but the worst in me and I would gladly replace it with another drug. I've cut down my drinking a lot too, hell, being sober is better in many respects than being drunk.

While we're at it, we should abolish the DEA and disqualify its agents from running for office or ever holding a position of power ever again. Or at least, we should abolish the DEA's unconstitutional power to ban chemicals on any whim whatsoever. It's long overdue that the people should start reversing the trend and transition back to democracy and away from the dictator/police state.
