CLOSED - Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Substitute for the M140)

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450 (M140)

you can edit the original title but you need to go to the OP and then go to advanced edit

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

To make that clear to everybody the datasheet you posted is for a completly new diode this is osrams new version of the PL TB450 it's higher powered and has a ESD protection zener diode integrated.

If you are sure that the seller sell this new version
I'll take a few they could be as powerful as the m140.
Also they would have a higher wavelength and a little tighter beam than the m140.

This datasheet is preliminary so if the seller got it's highly possible that he bought them.

Also the status of the old diode is "no more orders accepted " on osrams website.

Please proof this for us.

Here for all the datasheet comparison:

The old PL TB450 (that's the one we know here and the one DTR sells)

The new PL TB450B

The new one is definetely more powerful :eg:

I'm in the process of ordering 5 of these right now. When I have the diodes in hand I'll let you know.

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

I have a 380101 and a means of determining wavelength.

EDIT
5 of the Osram diodes are on order. More updates will be posted as the situation progresses.

Just an update.
FedEx was banging on my door today to deliver the sample diodes. Unfortunately, I was fast asleep with
the kind of sleep that only alcohol, buspar, and trazodone can provide. No delivery tomorrow due to the
holy day, so the soonest they can be here for testing will be Friday.

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

Count me in for one if they are indeed the diode specified on the datasheet.

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

Finally got the diodes
It is very late and I'm tired, but I managed to do some testing. More to come

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

Nice man.

I'm really excited for a power and divergence test now.
;)

Think about that little box full of diodes  Beautiful at least....

Man for fast testing I recommend O-like housings... Do you know those? The diode isn't "press fit" making it easier to insert, solder wires, test (heatsinked - the module is pure Al and has more mass than Aixiz) and swap for another diode. :)

i'm surprised you got it to lase. the sheet says a threshold of 200mA

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

Hey TLS, any idea when this will move from a feeler to a GB?

Thanks for your efforts, BTW!
I'm looking forward to more info...

I will be using this.

It is a heavy brass module that fits into a hefty block of aluminum via setscrew, fan cooled.

Yes I've had a few like this, but this one has to take the cake. It also could be that this is
just heavy LED type emission.

Pretty soon. I have to test this tonight or else I'm going to have the triads breaking my
door down.

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450B 1.6W (Not M140)

Okay, here are the divergence measurements everyone has been waiting for.

Slow axis:
2.5cm @ 15cm
4cm @ 30cm
I got 5.72°, so pretty close to the 7° stated in the datasheet. The fast axis I was unable to measure due
to lack of a reference point. The beam fades slowly out from the center, so there isn't really anything to
measure without special equipment.

And then there was this.

I got a little overly excited, but this is a characteristic of the PL TB450 and the PL TB450B. The zener
diode is clearly visible through the window, so that would make these the B.
I will also do some wavelength measurements.
