That is so impressive.
It's very hard to imagine that small but powerful laser ..

Great work.

 you might want to rephrase that.

And the master has done it yet one more time!

Awesome little build, I can't imagine how tough it must've been to work with titanium!

Jay if I remember correctly, is this your first titanium build you've worked with? If not, what other ones have you done? I like the idea of a titanium host... it'd be good to carry around when playing golf (just in case you run out of balls)

lol

peace & thanks

Re: Check Out My 370mW Tiny Titanium Key Chain Red!

Thanks Niko! :)

Yeah... The titanium head got really hot. Even though I only cut a little at a time. And using oil on the bit each time too...

It was smoking the oil...

And it melted the tape that I had wrapped the head with. But it still did not scratch the head...

The stuff is awesome stuff. Seems like stainless steel, but harder.

cmak, yes... This is the first titanium host I have tried. But I am going to have to make myself a blu-ray one!

safe to say you're not making a kit out of this any time soon...

or for that fact, ever. :p

looking forward to the BR pics!

Re: Check Out My 370mW Tiny Titanium Key Chain Red!

Well, at this point no...

But maybe later. I'll see how it goes on my bits when I make my blu-ray one.

Edit: Red kit here:

Update:

Current draw:

Without the resistor (direct from battery), the initial current draw from the battery (same for the diode - no driver), was 670mA's! (370mW's!) So with this kind of current to the diode, I figured it may not last long.

That's why I decided to install a 2 Ohm 1 Watt resistor to limit the current a little...

TT%206.jpg

Update: I added a cap and silicon diode for a little more protection to the LD...

TT%2012.jpg

So now, using a 2 Ohm 1 Watt resistor with cap and silicon diode... and a fully charged 10180, I get a current draw of 438mA's. Giving 286mW's. With my 650-G-1 glass lens mod... (I liked the 370mW's with a 'direct to battery connection', but I like this little jewel too much to kill the diode so fast)

Hope it lasts a while at this power...

:thanks: guys!

It's definitely a keeper...

Which is why I 'toned it down' some with the resistor. It's so small, solid, and shiny!

Blu-ray version next! :)

Beautiful (as usual)!

I am looking forward to your test with the 6V battery and the violet

Re: Check Out My 286mW Tiny Titanium Key Chain Red!

Thanks Dave!

I sure will update, when I get those 6 volt alkaline batteries and test them...

For sure the 2 X CR1 lithium cells give a good result direct to a PHR. (75mW's - AixiZ acrylic)

But I'm sure I will have to do some extra modification to try and fit the length. So I'm hoping those 6 volt alkaline batteries have a decent capacity...

Re: Check Out My 286mW Tiny Titanium Key Chain Red!

Update:

I got those perfect size 6 volt alkaline batteries today...
(no modifications needed - 10mm X 16mm)
Vinnic 6V Alkaline Battery 11A, GP11A, L1016, A11, MN11, AG11 [A11] - $0.99 : Batteries | Battery Chargers | Batteries Solutions

They work ok... but do not have much capacity. The fit is great, and the power starts out at about 50mW's (direct to a PHR), but by 5 minutes of constant on, the power was at 21mW's.

So for the PHR build, I think that I will try to fit the CR1 lithium batteries. (X 2)

Re: Check Out My 286mW Tiny Titanium Key Chain Red!

Looking forward to the Blu-ray! :pop: Too bad its gonna take more machining.

CR1 x2 sounds nice for tiny PHRs. Have you checked how the run time & output drop is on them? Perhaps the question is a little early as you have yet to put together your build.
Of course your Keychain 10280 is pretty small with benefit of a flexdrive & rechargeable battery. Still I can't help enjoying even tinier builds.
