Casio a140 vs a130

AFAIK, no one has done a definitive test to see if the diodes in the a140 are more powerful than the ones in the a130. It would make sense they are (although it could be the diode simply driven at a different current). I also don't get why all the GBs are for the a130 projector when the a140 projector.
So, has anyone definitively compared the diodes from the two projectors?
 





From what I've seen, the A140 diodes are in fact more powerful. The diodes that have been driven up to 1.5-2W and beyond have all come from the A140 to my knowledge. Also, if you look at the P vs I graphs over in the mW/mA thread, you'll see many of the A130 diodes have the telltale 'kink' in the graph around the 1W mark.

Not definitive proof, just a hunch.
 
If I'm remembering right, the a140 was several hundred dollars more.

That's only a $60 difference which equates to a $2.5 per diode. I know most of us would be more than willing to pay $2.50 for a laser with the potential to have twice the power or a much longer life.
 
There has been no "definitive comparison."

We do not have nearly enough data to tell if the diodes are different or not

The 130's array is rated for 2000 lumen. The 140's array is rated for 2500 lumen. There is no way to know as yet if they are actually different or simply "binned" for output.

Since the vast majority of people buying these diodes are NOT going to be running them at > 1W there is very little need to pay more for the 140 even if they do prove to be different

I know. I'm probably only going to be running mine at 500mW, but still. laser_freak want moar power.
 
I would assume that Casio is just underdring the a130 diodes, wouldn't make sense to buy a ton of one diode and a ton of another for just a couple hundred lumens more.

LOL! Some of us were willing to pay $450 more for one of these diodes when they were first offered! :cryyy:

I've got two A130 builds in kevinmassey's graph shown here:

The higher power one is using the AixiZ 405 lens for that graph. And the lower power one is using a small aperture 405-G-1 for that graph. (about 7% more power vs AixiZ 405)

The two diodes are very different in efficiency...

I have two A140 dildes from Daniel's group buy at PL.

All I am waiting on is the larger copper piece that I needed to order for the SS 18650 host that is ready for it at 950mA's. (Micro BoostDrive)

I wonder if WL will be using the 130 or 140. I wonder if eventually they will have a 500mW version that uses the 130 and a 1W version that uses the 140 or something...
 
Maybe it's the same diodes and the current is set higher for the 140?

Is daniel still selling any? I can't find even a reference to an a140 GB on PL
