Exclamation FS: Stainless Steel 18650 Kit! Perfect for 445...

Also, check out my new SolarForce L2P 18650 build kit! Awesome!

http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-solarforce-l2p-kit-18650-host-massive-heatsink-53746.html

This Stainless Steel host is sweet!

Great host for a 445 build! (or blu-ray and red)

Proper eye protection needed: Just a warning. (In case you may be a beginner) Read up on proper eye protection...

AixiZ module: You will not use the back 'barrel' part of the AixiZ module. All that is needed with any decent heatsink, is the front 'business end' of the module.

Note: I do not sell complete lasers. My kits do not include laser diodes or laser modules. You must buy your own laser diode and/or green laser module to complete the assembly. (Most kits have a 'Hot' option for the driver installed and current set, which is most of the work)

For a 445 build, you can get your diode pre-installed into an AixiZ module with lead wires soldered on from daguin or DTR.

In that case, you will just connect your diode leads, to my driver leads... ('Hot' option kit)

This host will also work for DTR's modules with driver attached. Specify this when ordering. See below...

I'm calling this one my Stainless Steel 18650 kit... It is available with all of the normal options as my other kits. (except the tritium marker - I don't want to machine into the nice stainless steel finish)

My design uses the pill of the host. The threaded pill offers very good contact and heat transfer to the host. (all of my kits are designed for DIY)

And believe me, the heatsink is plenty massive in this awesome host!

See Here for this same host with a green kit!
http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-stainless-steel-green-kit-easy-assembly-56412.html

Here's the host:
DealExtreme: $21.61 Aurora SH-032 Stainless Steel Cree Q3-WC 3-Mode 160-Lumen Memory LED Flashlight (1*18650)

Made from solid stainless steel...

Here's a picture of the thick brass pill 'drilled out', and driver installed if you get the 'Hot' option...

With the ‘Hot’ option kit, I will have the driver installed for you. With the current set to the agreed upon setting, and lead wires soldered onto the driver as well. Ready for you…

Maxed V5 'Hot' option: For a maxed out V5 FlexDrive 'Hot' option, I will not drill out the top of the pill, but will thermal glue the driver upside down inside the pill. To the bottom side of the top 'flat' spot that the stock emitter is mounted on... (specify when ordering the 'Hot' option)

The build style is the same as most of my other kits...

Utilizing the stock pill to mount your driver into, and then threading it into the head with the heatsink...

Tip: I find that just 'pinching' the pill and heatsink together (to keep them from turning separate from each other), and then turning the head with my other hand makes for an easy assembly. Then you just use the tips of some needle nosed pliers on the solder blobs or two notches on the pill to give it the final tightning. You want the heatsink tight. Because if it is not tight, then it could turn while focusing. And also, if it is tight with the pill and host, then the heatsinking will be better...

EzFocus Adapter available:

If your ordering an EzFocus adapter, let me know what lens you will be using. Because I can custom thread it deeper to fit the AixiZ 405 lens. See here:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs...ses-51727.html

Fitting for DTR's driver attached modules:

This host is a nice fit for DTR's modules that already have a driver attached...

It means just customizing the heatsink and contact board to be used without the stock pill.

You will not be using the pill with a DTR module that has the driver attached.

My custom heatsink will be sized to be held in place when the head is screwed onto the barrel. You will just connect the module driver leads, to my battery contact board leads... (first remove the back 'barrel' part of the module to make more room - back barrel not used)

Depending on which driver your module has, you can use either 2 X RCR123 batteries, or an 18650. Battery position - Case negative. (negative end of batteries towards tail switch)

* Stainless Steel DTR module kit (aluminum heatsink) - $59 (DTR module not included)

The pricing and options for the normal kit will be like so...

* SS 18650 basic kit - $55
* Add 'Hot' option (for a V5 maxed setting, the driver will be thermal glued inside the pill) - $58 (let me know the current setting)
* Copper heatsink upgrade - $12
* Knurled EzFocus adapter (if desired) - $24 (designed for fitting my 405-G-1 or 650-G-1 lenses, but there is plenty of room in the heatsink for module positioning for use with different lenses)
* AixiZ module - $5
* 405-G-1 glass lens assembly- $55
* 650-G-1 glass lens assembly - $52
* AixiZ 445 glass lens with AixiZ focus ring - $11 / Or with Custom Focus knob - $25 (see here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs...ses-51727.html )
* Shipping - 3% of total plus $3 (based on PayPal fees plus postage)
* Shipping Policy

You will love this host!

445 Lens options:

The 405-G-1 is the most power, but the AixiZ 445 lens has a better looking dot for this multimode 445 diode at 15% or 20% less power. See lens comparisons for 445 here:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/44...ons-51456.html

Recommended battery for a high current build:
AW 18650 Protected 2600 mAh Rechargeable Lithium Battery - New Version

Here's some beam shots! (with smoke)

Assembly tips:

If you get the 'Hot' option, I will have driver installed, current set, and lead wires soldered onto the driver output, and ready for your connection to your diode. You will be using the front 'business end' of the AixiZ module (or my 1/2" copper module), and putting some lead wires onto your diode as well. (this is the way I recommend the install anyway)

Then just connect the diode lead wires, to the driver lead wires using some heat shrink tubing to insulate...

The trickiest part for the assembly, will be to thread the pill/driver, together with the heatsink/module (and diode), into the head of the host as one assembly without letting the heatsink turn separately from the pill. This would obviously twist the wires.

One method, is to pinch the heatsink and pill between your thumb and which ever finger fits in through the front of the host, hold them tight together between your thumb and finger, while turning the head of the host with your other hand until it is all the way in place.

Then, just a final tightening of the pill (make sure front of heatsink is centered with the host) with the tips of some needle nosed pliers to make sure it is tight. (can't have the heatsink loose, it will twist while focusing)

If there are no slots in the pill for the needle nose tips, then you can always 'snag' the solder blobs with the tips. You just need to get the pill 'snugged up' against the heatsink as good as possible.

The best method I have found for install (or dis-assembly), is the use of this nice tool that I made... (made from brass)

With this tool, I can thread it into the AixiZ module after it is mounted in the heatsink, and ready for final assembly. The diode will not get touched by the tool...

I thread it in hand tight, then stand the tool upright with it through the head of the host.

It is easy to put pressure on the 'pill/heatsink assembly' using this tool. (to keep them from turning separately from each other)

Then just use your other hand to turn the head and get the assembly in place.

After the final tightening of the pill, you can just unscrew the tool from your module.

And of course, it is a great tool for dis-assembly as well...

It is an especially useful tool if working on really small builds, such as pens or Key Chains...

It is solid brass, then machined to size, threaded for AixiZ, and drilled at the tip for diode clearance. I offer this tool for $23 dollars plus $3 dollars shipping if anybody is interested...

Couple of other methods:

DTR does it his own style:
Customer Service Experiences (jayrob & flaminpyro)

What ever works best. You can even thermal glue the pill to the heatsink before assembly to make sure they don't 'twist' the wires.

One thing. Do not install your battery until your diode is connected and installed. Because the driver will get damaged if powered without a load...

Got your covered...

These hosts are more expensive than most, and I can't afford to stock a lot of them. I ordered 4 of them, and am waiting on the shipping.

Edit: I have lots of stock on these now!

But I'll take good care of you as soon as I get them!

Thanks!

is the hot option price in addition to the basic price, or is it the overall price for it?
how much would a hot option, copper heatsink, with focus adapter cost? is there any particular lense that is best for 445nm? thanks

The hot option is in addition to the price of the kit. So it's $55 + $48 for the hot option. $139 and shipping for what you described.

Yes, what Prototype said...

The driver from drlava with current set, is $27 plus shipping. So basically your paying an extra $18 dollars or so for me to install the driver, test it, and also have lead wires soldered on ready for you...

For lens choices, there are two good choices. The 405-G-1 is the most power, and a good beam, but the AixiZ 445 lens gives a cleaner dot at about 15% less output power. See here:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/44...ons-51456.html

Sending PM...

ah, for some reason i thought the basic came with the driver uninstalled anyway, but this makes sense.
im tempted to go hot option, but I should really learn how to do this stuff myself.

Default Re: FS: Stainless Steel 18650 Kit! Polished! Perfect for 445...

This first delivery of hosts that I received today, was only 4 of them... (didn't realize the orders would come in so fast)

This kit is really awesome, and I promise you it will be worth the wait!

I have three more orders or hosts coming...

Fonduman, you happen to be the 4th one waiting, so you will get one these first 4, but you are also waiting on a AixiZ 445 lens. I know they are shipping now, so by the time I get to your order (Tuesday or Wednesday), I will probably have the AixiZ 445 lenses...

lazeerer got the first one. The three more on this delivery of 4 hosts, are:

godmonkey
astrotoo
Fonduman

I hate not being able to fill orders right away like I normally do. I apologize for this. It is a combination of waiting on parts, plus a back log of orders, that has caused a delay in my normally fast shipping.

For others who have ordered this kit from me, please be patient and you will love the kit. But I'm just waiting on hosts...

I got an e-mail notice that 4 more shipped today. So I will probably have them in about a week or so.

If you change your mind, just message me and I will refund. But please don't do a PayPal complaint or anything like that...

I've got three more separate orders of this host from two different vendors for a total of 14 more hosts ordered. So I'm trying to maybe stay a few hosts ahead of orders. But I'm stuck waiting on these next orders...

P.S. Not sure if all of the coming orders will have a blue tail cap like my personal one does (because it shows a green GITD in the DX page), but these first 4 have the blue tail cap. (lazeerer's is not shown because I already shipped his kit)

Yeah...

Really sorry for the delay. You ordered exactly one week ago. (July 2nd) But at least I have your host now! I'll have your kit ready in a couple of days. (still waiting on your lens, but AixiZ has notified us that they are shipping now)

Can you thread the heatsink for this one so it takes the diode directly ?

Yes, it can be done, but there are a couple of reasons why I didn't offer it with this kit...

This host has a long heatsink and gives good mass for heatsinking. So the AixiZ module with set screw is nice because that style allows you to position the module to accommodate different lens choices. Especially if you need to adjust the module position for fitting an EzFocus adapter.

For a press fit design, the press fit area will need to be up inside the heatsink. It has to be the same length as an AixiZ module.

So it would need a long 'skirt like so...

But I just have a small lathe, and boring copper would be kind of difficult on my lathe. Copper is harder to work with. Aluminum would be easier to make that drawing. But it's the boring of the copper that I shy away from. Plus you would probably need a custom press tool to press the diode in and make sure you get it aligned up inside there...

That would be great. I have a diode press tool (lying around somewhere...)
Also, I think aluminum would be fine (even better). Not only is it lighter, it also dissipates heat better than copper (although copper sucks in heat from the diode faster)

Would you charge the same as you do for the black 18650 "press fit" option ?

It's a different design than my black 18650...

It's more work to do a press fit for this one. So instead of a $5 dollar upgrade charge, I would want more like $10 bucks extra...

Just send me a private message if you decide, then I'll get you a total with what ever options you might want...
