There is nothing more satisfying then building some incredibly cool (like a laser) by yourself and being able to tell other people that you built it.

I would jump on Glutton's offer. Disassemble it afterwards and study it a little bit and base your next build off of what your learned from looking at this one.

Remember though, lasers are dangerous and can blind you or someone else extremely fast. So be safe, but have fun

I still suggest that you try this yourself in the future. It is very satisfying when you turn on a DIY laser and watch it work.

Yes I did, I'm not sure if you were confused by my offer. You still have to buy the parts but I will assemble them for free. To me, it sounded you thought I was gonna buy the parts. I dont want to force you to build something to my own specifications just find a host/heatsink/driver that you like and get a PHR, I'm sure I can assemble almost any laser you want.

Read the posts -- YOU can do it. You are not too old to learn. Read Ohm's law and all the info here. YOU can do it and have bragging rights.
Too many schools discoruage kids. WE DON'T. Read the posts here and DO IT. Others like you have done it.

I joined this forum when I was 12 ... 15 now, though built my first laser at 12! Then again, I have been soldering since 5, though it's not hard to learn.

Soldering irons can be had for like $15, solder is a few dollars and you can get a basic digital multimeter for literally $7!

If you don't feel comfortable working with the diodes etc, then you could get someone to build it for you, but where's the fun in that?!

very schweet the pay it forward is what I've been trying to do here for a while...just can't get any momentum.

I suggested in the past through some PMs that all members pay it forward to the next member one of their builds. I would be able to say ever body would enjoy this.

I would not (sorry for saying) do this for a 13 year old unless I personally knew them and could set access parameters for the use of a high powered laser sorry OP>

I'd have to agree with this. I'm 42 and I almost caught my eye a couple of times. Even when careful, accidents happen to the best of us. And if he, or one of his friends damaged their site, you know a lawsuit is not far behind. At least if he builds his own he is at his own risk. These lasers are not toys. They can start fires, hurt animals, and blind people. I still dont like the fact people sell these to kids with 3 posts just to make a buck.

I build my first blu ray laser on my own. In fact, the only soldering I had to do was when building the driver, which was easy because I was guided by a diagram

Before this forum, I never even picked up a soldering iron, and never was handy with anything resembling tools. Now I've built a few lasers on my own. My family didn't pay much attnetion to my laser hobby until I told them I BUILT these lasers (and gave one to my brother - 38yo - as a gift). They were a big hit.

Bottom line: if I can do it, anyone can. Try one of the kits supplied by various posters here. It's a great way to pick up a lot of the materials needed in one place.

Yes, I know what you mean. I have been thinking this over today while at work and the last thing I would want to do is help this youngster blind himself.

The other day a co-worker came by for a visit with his 4 year old daughter, she grabbed an empty host off my desk and pointed it directly in her eye and started clicking it,"why wont this work". Even tho there was no danger it still made my heart sink knowing what she could have done to herself had it been "hot"

Nah.. It's okay, I already doubted if I CAN get your laser for 76$... My parent's already said no, so meh. Why do people think 13 years old are dumb. I acknowledge the consequences of what happens if you point a laser on a human eye and on an airplane etc. I know that green is more sensible to human eye than any other color. I know there are lawsuits if anything happens. I read the holy laser bible... Is that enough to make you people understand that I won't be dumb enough to pass my laser around to my friends and shoot it like a plasma laser thinking it can cut EVERYTHING on it's way?...

They don't think your "dumb", it's the simple fact that your a teenager. I remember taking laser pointers and putting them right up to my eye's and turning them on. Most kid's just can't resist shining it at everything, including there friends eye's. Now I am not saying your irresponsible, I don't know you well enough, but like the above posters have said the legal trouble you or your parent's could get in would be pretty serious.

I do encourage you to really give this hobby a try and build your own. Have your dad help you do it. That would be very rewarding for you and him.
