Build/Review of Orginial Cypreus II 638nm 1W: Now Complete!!!

WB.....What a shame....Sorry about yur "Copper Pickle " !!!!!

Well.....I have been thinking of this unfortunate incident today....and have a few ideas !!

1) Could a module removal be done by drilling out the unit ????? Because the LD is shot....no need to work about damage there. Secure the host and dill out with a 12mm drill bit. A drill press will be needed for this operation.

2) OR...use a 15/32 " drill bit....and drill out the majority of the module housing.....a VERY thin module wall would remain....and this could be collapsed and the thin shell OD removed. This method may be better because no enlargement of the module bore ID would occur. Again, a drill press would be needed to accomplish this.

3) And...the last method !!! This may sound crazy....but I have seen it done on a industrial scale. Wear welders gloves for this idea.

a) Obtain a small hunk of Dry Ice ( Watch your hands...this stuff WILL cold burn you !!!)

b) Screw in an empty brass lens barrel to the module. This piece will act as a " Cold Finger"

c) Contact/push the brass barrel into the dry ice. The very low temperature will
be " wicked" up thru the Brass and into the module.

d) While this is being done.....have a helper heat the outside of the host with a propane torch. This heating should be applied evenly around the full circumference and of course be done to the output/module end !!

e) Here is what should happen....The module will shrink....just a little from the very low temp of the Dry Ice. The host will expand from the heat and the ID will expand...just a little !!

f) This Hot/Cold treatment should deliver some small clearance between the module and the host. Then...just clamp onto the Brass sleeve...and " Pop the Cork" !!! Will this work ???

Dunno for sure...But I bet it would.....only issue may be possible cosmetic damage to the host OD... depending on the finish on your host. With the CU of the Cypreus....should be no problem !! Just try'in to throw out some potential work-around's ...when this ugly problem occurs !!!

If anyone tries this...post a thread please !!! Just some thoughts...REAL shame about this one though !!!

@CDBEAM777: The module is out but the host is bent. That is the current issue. It will apparently still function once I put the new diode in, just looks a lot different than your typical straight hosts.

Yes...I realize the module is now out.....Just trying to offer alternate removal methods should anyone else find themselves in this condition !!!

Well...At LEAST....the Copper Pickle will NOT roll of the table !!! hahahah

I bet the host could be straightened !!! ???? MMMmmmm???? Heat the whole thing to red hot....and roll it on a steel plate....MANY times !!! Still, you may deform the OD fins !!!

Edit.....In looking at the Pic of the Pickle some more....It is the grooves that somewhat allowed the warp to occur....like a Kerf cut in wood working.
Maybe just heat'er up...and insert a steel rod that matches closely to the ID....and just keep working the rod up into the host....WOW...quite the image hey ?? Keep away from those OD fins....as they may want to mushroom / deform with red hot heat???

Good luck !!!

Hey wannaburnstuff. I am the proud new owner of a steel forge. "Red hot" you say. Run a true pipe, or rod up the middle (easy fellas) and let the pipe straitened it out. Worth a shot? Ehh?

Can you make me a sword? :P lol. When I get it back I will see if it is terrible. If it is I may send it to you and let you hit it with your best shot.

I've been making some really great knives. Elk antler handles, nice curved to fit my hand. Really having fun with it.

Let me know, I may be able to get it back straight.
I'm thinking take the closest round stock I can find, heat the host, and roll the stock while inside the host on the anvil. That should straighten it out damn near perfect. Hopefully :)

Well I got the "laser" back today. It is definitely bent, although the skew isn't near so much as I was worried about. DTR didn't send my lens back or a new lens for the replacement diode so I am not really sure what to do with it. Part of me wants to just take out the diode and driver and sell the host as is to someone for a fraction of the original cost. If anyone feels like having a count dooku host hit me up. Im not going to be asking too terribly much and you get a solid copper host. If you are able to straighten her out, more power to ya. You get a 140 dollar host for a lot less haha.

Did you sell it?

Sorry for your loss, it's a great host. :(
But I liked your review! Are you going to get in on the cypreus IIb presale?

I'd be curious as to how much you would be selling it for (if you have not yet done so). Maybe we can work something out :)
