has anyone seen this site, i saw it on a kipkai video...
www.build-a-blue-laser.com

They claim the cheapest blu-ray diodes go for $750,
and that the 'blue' colour far outshines ANY green or red laser on the market.

I was certain there would be something on here about it, but I searched and found nothing... :o

Yea , there was a talk about it in the kipkay's new video thread. They're just trying to scam people , feeding them lies , just like everybody else ;D

What I do wonder is what kind of a market for violet diodes exists outside our forum. :-/

We should keep it like this. If everybody knew how to build burning lasers cheaply, they would be banned in the blink of an eye.

750 ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'm building a REAL BLUE dpss laser for a lot cheaper than that :P

In their defense (or maybe not). I checked out the website after seeing that in the kipkay video as well. He needs to check what color blue is.. and reduce prices some. He was using my picture for his Aixiz blank module as well. I saw that and let him know and he promptly removed the picture which was polite.

He seems like a good enough guy, apparently he's new to making websites though.. http://build-a-blue-laser.com used to go to their FTP site, I think he fixed that after I posted that on kipkay's video though.

my $0.02

His prices aren't THAT bad.
Maybe he just has bad sources.

There have been worse on some websites that i've seen.

selling phr diodes for 50$ is a rip-off. if hes not smart enuff to look for a cheaper supplier...well then thats his fault. if people are stupid enuff to pay those prices.... ::)

my .02 as well

They are just phishing the mass pool of idiots like most other companies. You have to give them some credit tho. If it was not for his video I would not have found you. I stumbled on DX on an unrelated item search. Saw the lasers and the disclaimer about sending to the US. Did a Google and found Kipkay's video. Did another Google about Kipkay, and found a video about what Kipkay doesn't tell you. That video listed your site, and here I am.

I'm sure a lot of your members got here the same way.

[edit] from the data sheet for the 803T..."Leads- 3mm long with small pcb attached to allow for easy soldering"
Should read.... small pcb attached cos we can't be bothered to remove it[/edit]

While $50 for a PHR must seem like a rip-off to most of us here on LPF, it's a steal to the rest of the world. One of the things that makes a business profitable is playing on the public's lack of knowledge. People routinely go to major resellers and pay inflated prices for products that, if they knew where to look, would cost MUCH less. Due to the fact that they don't know where to look, they must then shell out the money to buy the item from someone who does. This forms the backbone of business in a capitalist society, the profit margin. Don't hate these guys for trying to make a profit.

If a potential customer had been drooling over a $2000 Wicked Lasers Blu-Ray and happened to stumble across this guy's site selling the parts much cheaper, then he/she could build their own for a fraction of the price. That customer would buy the parts, build the laser, and go on about their life a very happy customer, completely oblivious to the incredible deals to be had here on LPF and elsewhere. The bottom line is that we here on LPF are spoiled. The prices we pay DO NOT reflect what value others might put on the same item. We're lucky, and we can't expect everyone to sell things for the same prices that we routinely see.

Not fast enough tho. There is a lot of info here to digest, along with many eclectic personalities. I feel right at home... [smiley=bath.gif]
