Under the proper conditions, these things are surprisingly resilient. I lost the anode to one BR diode and had to open the can. In the process, the top crystal's adhesive came loose and I had to remove the whole thing to resurrect the violet. Surprisingly enough, the darn thing lit like new when the wire was reconnected to its post after the repair!
