In the pictures I've seen, blue and violet look pretty close. Violet looks closer to blue then purple. Is this a camera effect or its just like that or is it just my eyes?

405nm often causes surfaces to fluoresce bluish. However, once you see the beams next to each other, there will never be a question in your mind again..

Maybe someone here has a side-by-side beam shot available.

Here you go! Even here the camera makes the violet look a bit blueish, but, the far left 2 are 405 nm then Blue, (473nm), then green, (532nm) yellow, (593.5 nm), and red, (660nm)

Thanks, Glenn.

See. There is no question once you see it.

I don't care what the seller says or what the camera "sees." 405nm lasers do NOT look blue.

Peace,

My cellphone camera sees the difference rather well, especially with beamshots. The pic is comparing 420mW of 405nm to 50+mw of 473nm, as you can see, blue is brighter than violet.

EDIT: Just uploaded some new pics to my album, including another comparison pic with green and some awesome 473nm beams!

Kingdave, your two beamshots exactly look the same wavelength/color ;)

Oops, yeah at the top they look identical except for the brightness, but if you look closely at the bottom of the beams, the one on the right has a more purpleish hue to it. My pic was mainly to illustrate brightness of blue over violet, especially when the blue is 370mW weaker than the violet.

Except for the last two, here is a decent rendition of my 405, 473, 488, 532, and 543 lasers.
