I received my laptop last night.
So far....I am very pleased with this laptop.
I will write up a basic review now...
Specifics:
Lenovo Y560P 43972BU
Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Intel i7 2.0ghz turbo 2.9ghz
6GB DDR3
Radeon 6570m 1GB GDDR3 video
750GB 5400rpm HD
JBL Speakers
720P 15.6" screen
6 cell battery
Now on to the review.
All around feel of the laptop is...well, just bland. It has a decent look to it, but it is made completely with plastic. The lid/screen has some flex to it and so does the main base of the laptop as well. You get the feeling as if it's not a very sturdy machine.
But wait...you have to turn it on to get the full experience...right? So...blast off. Power button lights up along with the screen. Then the windows icon pops up in mere seconds, but annoyingly, it seems to stay on for far to long. I instantly realized what the cause was...5400rpm HD. If this thing had a ssd or a hybrid hd, it would be much, much faster. As of right now, the HD is the bottle neck.
Image on the screen are crystal clear. It plays HD movies with ease and the HDMI out allows you to connect it to a 1080p TV where you can really let it shine. Doing this does not seem to have an effect on Frame Rates.
The processor is amazingly fast for a laptop cpu. It's completely blown me away. Keep in mind, I'm used to an Intel core 2 quad q6600 2.4ghz. There is nothing else that can be said about the processor. It's amazing.
Ram...well it's ram and there's 6GBs worth.
JBL speakers....are actually the best laptop speakers that I have ever heard. Very clear and they have decent sound.
Battery life....
web surfing with WIFI on. about 3.5 hours
DVD or Streaming movies about 2 - 2.5 hours
Pretty good for whats in it, but you get the feeling that it could squeeze out another hour if it had the ability to change GPU's....since the i7 sandy bridge chipset uses much less power.
The cooling system is very impressive. You would think,....i7 and a radeon 6570m card...must get hot, right? Well, it doesn't. It's very comfortable to rest on your lap and it only gets slightly warm on the bottom. The fan is always running, but it's at a very low RPM and is pretty much silent. Ever so often, it might speed up, but it's rare unless your gaming.
Overall...I think this is a great laptop and is a steal for the price (I paid $799 for it). I highly recommend it.
Any questions...feel free to ask.
