Right now...I don't know what to expect since I will be using an image of my current HD to install windows 7 on the SSD. I'm guessing 30 sec or less for boot times? Fingers are crossed....hopefully I will find out tomorrow, but I'm not 100% sure that I will have the time to set it up though. I'm really busy right now. Lots of OT at work.
 
Well...things have from bad to worse. Anyone have a legit ISO image of Win 7 home premium 64 bit? I need to download one. Apparently my images don't work and my copy of the window 7 is the professional version only!!!!

What a bad long night/day. Help would be much appreciated.


FYI. Professional boots up in about 15-25 seconds. It can vary a little. A full restart takes about 35 seconds.

Windows gives it a rating of 7.7

Bump...I found an image...but I'm not sure if it's good...Only one way to find out.

Unfortunately since I don't have a working computer at home anymore, I'm going to have to download it from my very slow Work Internet. Estimated time of around 7 hours to download 3.1 GB. Some people might be shocked that I am complaining about this, but the simple truth is, if my computer was working at home it would take less than 45 min.

Seriously though, I hope you get it working. I've been in nearly the same boat a few times myself.
 
mSATA SSD is now up and running!!!

A full restart went from taking
1 minute 40 seconds
to
30-35 seconds!!!!

It might not be the fastest SSD, but it is a MAJOR improvement over my original 750GB 5400rpm drive.

I do have one complaint though, and that is I only have 5GB left on my C drive. I see an upgrade in the future to at least a 80GB drive. These things are well worth the money and hassle. :):):):)

Yeah...It's awesome.

On battery...boot time from pressing the power button to being in a usable state takes around 25-30. Plugged in it takes around 18-25. It seems to vary a bit.

My windows 7 rating is no longer 5.9 It's 6.8. It is now held back by the video card.

Processor is 7.4
HD is 7.7
Video is 6.8
Ram is 7.9

Not to shabby for a laptop. :) Thanks for all of your (everyones) help with me choosing what to buy. :)


FYI: When I had everything installed on my old hard drive, a full bootup with all of my startup programs loaded, it took almost 3 minutes to boot completely. It's only added maybe 2-3 seconds of time on the solid state for a full startup time of less than 27-32 seconds on bat and 19-27 seconds plugged in!!!! I have video to prove it!

Interesting chart, my Toshiba did do better than my Dell... I like Toshiba btw -GH
 
I've got a dell XPS 15 which was 750$ (excluding MS Office). i5, 4gig ram, nvidia gt 420M with 1GB video ram.
 
In a professional setting (fortune 100 financial services company), we have used HP's over the past 12 years that I've been here. There have been things to complain about over this time, but they work with us to resolve quickly and the fact that we are still using them is good enough for me to always order this brand for personal use. The other brands all have their good features, but for longevity in a production environment for desktops, workstations, servers, and laptops, overall I vote for HP. Perhaps Lenovo, also, for laptops. Anytime you want to know how good equipment is, just put it in a work environment where it runs all the time, gets dropped and abused and misused. If a company is still investing in it, most likely it has merit...

You always need to remember that there is a difference between a business product line and a consumer product line. In general, the consumer product line is usually much worse and this is the case with both Dell and HP.
 
In the case of HP, my personal purchases (consumer grade) have been consistent with the business grade on longevity and overall quality, but I agree that there are significant differences in build (and price) between the two product grades.
 
not dell....(instant death machiens) ...and not HP (bloatware beyond your wildest dreams)

asus maybe? I'm not very impressed with laptops. Been waiting about 4 years to buy one and the stats really haven't gone up all that much.
