Best host for a DIY Blue-Ray build

Which host would you prefer as a laser-newbie?

Hey guys,
i'm planning to build a blue-ray laser with a DX-host
I've some hosts i prefer, but don't know which is the best for my first laser-build! It should be small, unlike the MXDL, the most proposed host for newbies. But also not small like a keychain.
I want to use a PHR-803T Diode in an AiXiZ-housing with a Dr Lava flexdrive.
Now,that are the best hosts i found on DX:


DealExtreme: $13.75 Ultrafire WF-602D 3.6V Cree Flashlight (CR123A)
This is the host jayrob uses, but i think it's a bit small for my first DIY laser

DealExtreme: $14.80 Romisen RC-A4 Cree Q3-WC 3-Mode 150-Lumen LED Flashlight - Grey (1*CR123A)
This host looks pretty cool, but you can only unscrew it to two parts. And it has a clip. But I don't know if this would be a problem, because u can't reach the clicky switch at the end.

DealExtreme: $12.99 Ultrafire MCU-C7s Cree Q5-WC 3-Mode 230-Lumen Memory LED Flashlight (1*CR123A)
This host is dust-proof or maybe even a bit waterproof. But if every time I want focus the beam of the laser, I have to unscrew the whole flashlight. It has also cool green-glowing o-rings appropriate to a 405nM beam.

DealExtreme: $13.94 UltraFire A40B Cree Q5-WC 220-Lumen GITD 5-Mode Memory LED Flashlight (1*CR123A)
This flashlight looks cool and is unscrewable to three parts. But maybe the clip of it is a little bit flimsy.

DealExtreme: $12.74 Ultrafire UF-010 Cree Q3-WC 5-Mode 200-Lumen LED Flashlight (1*CR123A)
Almost like the flashlight above.

Now please write what host do you thing would be the best.

You should buy a kit from a member - jayrob is reccommended - instead of buying the host and heatsink apart. Much easier :)
 
I voted for Ultrafire WF-602D but I forgot that Ultrafire MCU-C7s can become modded to be water proof. If you want some cool beamshots inside water go for the MCU-C7s. Blu ray light inside the water becomes "blue" to the human eye :) Have a look at this thread, by iskor: http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/water-proof-blu-ray-43056.html

Also, as Grix said, it's a better idea to get a kit from Jayrob. I 've dealt with him once and hadn't had any problems at all.

I don't see Kryton Groove on the poll. I'm confused.

Kryton = best heatsinking ever. My next choice is the ehgemus hosts. They are very nice as well.

yea, i've already thought about buying a kit from jayrob, exspecially with the Ultrafire WF-602D, but i've decided to build the whole thing myself. I've a friend who can made me a heatsink for my build, so i don't have to buy one. to build the laser myself is the challenge for me. I really don't want buy a just-fit-together-kit. If i follow the the guides and instructions i dare building a laser myself

True, you get the most satisfaction with a laser that you put a lot of work into.

Just make sure there will be no gaps between the heatsink and the module.
 
There will always be some gap, but you want to try to get as close to press fit as possible.

If he is going to use aixiz module he wants the heatsink to have a 11.9 mm hole and with a good setscrew everything will be ok. So he needs an exactly 11.9 mm hole.

And i think the whole in it for the aixiz should be only a fractin of a mmm greater than he modul itself right? And i heard that it would be good to stick the aixiz in the heatsink and the heatsink in the host with some thermal heat-sink compound.

You want to pick your aixiz module, then machine the heatsink. All aixiz modules will be a slightly different size. And yes, heat-sink compound or thermal epoxy is recommended.

yes, you're right. i'll do it exactly like that
then i have only to measure the inside of the flashlight and to lathe a thread for a set-screw in the complete heatsink

I highly recomend the Ultrafire MCU-C7s
Solid host all around + it's small and can be made to be waterproof. FYI: you can see it being used in my avatar.

If you want a kit...check with Jayrob. He has many kits for sale and all of them are great!!!
