As you can see in this picture, on the top, is the host to the Pocket Mini and on the bottom is the host that I plan on using to try to make a water tight laser.

Now what intrigued me to use this host is these simple 3 facts..
1.) It’s small
2.) It’s water tight to about 8'
3.) It is of much higher quality than the Pocket Mini host. (Pocket mini host is great, but (IMO) this one is much better)

Edit: One last thing that I forgot to add....It can easily fit a Rechargeable RCR123A (Protected) Cell.

EDIT:
Here is the link to the host.
DealExtreme: $12.99 Ultrafire MCU-C7s Cree Q5-WC 3-Mode 230-Lumen Memory LED Flashlight (1*CR123A)
I recently received a new light that is the same exact model that I recomend for this build from DX. I am sad to say that the quality of this light has gone down durasticly.
This in turn could effect how water tight this build will be in the end. Please make sure that all of your seals are good before submerging your build underwater.

This host, even in it's lower quality state, should still be a good host for this build.
You might have to buy bettter o-rings for it though.

Heat Sink dimensions are(Inches) UPDATED FINAL DIMENSIONS
OD: Ø 0.757 (you could probably get away with a 0.750)
ID: Ø 0.468 +.002 -.000
Length: 0.545

Make up your own set screw size.:)

Enjoy people. Make me prowd by making yourself one and showing it on this thread.:)

Build is now complete!!.

That's certainly a great looking host. Put a 6x in it and you'll have a great laser for sure.

Thanks, Unfortionately, I managed to kill my diode....to much power.:( Oh well. I will have to order some more.:)

I did finish my build to a point. It currently doesn't have the proper heatsink in it yet and also the diode is dead as well, but I do have some pictures of what the final laser will look like minus the beam shots.:(

This looks a little scratched but it really isn't. I just need to clean it.

The switch is definitely better made than the Pocket mini.

The button doesn't extend past the bottom of the host either.

Any coments or suggestions...I am more than welcome to them.:)
I would love to hear some input as to how to make it better...outside of having a working diode.:)

Here are two things that I am really starting to like about this build.
1.) The heat sink is larger than the one on the Pocket mini. (Don't get me wrong, I love the pocket mini and I own several of them, but this is seriously like an upgrade to the mini. Jayrob..I am not trying to steal your thunder. I am more than willing to have you make and sell these as a kit, if you would like. I will tell you everything you need to know...just PM me, if you want.)
2.) This host is very easy to work with.

Thanks for reading.

Could my luck get any worse tonight....Not only have I killed my diode, I also just shattered the glass lense. :banghead:

Note to self....Remember not to tighten the heat sink to hard on the front glass lense next to the o-ring.....It will shatter.:banghead: Plus, it doesn't have to be on that tight to make it water tight.

Wow what a bad night. Time to get some rest. I gues this build will have to wait a couple of weeks to a month, for I am broke and I can't afford both a diode and some glass lenses.

To all....I will recover from this loss, just like I have with everything else. I still welcome comments and suggestions. I will keep all of you posted with any updates for this build.

I guess the fish are safe....for now....:(

Haha...For now. :)

I just found an old lense from a pocket mini build....It's about .002 inches to small in diameter, but it should allow me to finish my build and to also...I am guessing allow me to go about only a foot under water....not as good of a seal now.:(

Still I am happy that I found that lense in my pile of junk....and my mother always wonders why I keep all of that stuff around.:)

"and my mother always wonders why I keep all of that stuff around." Mine wonders the same thing sometimes ... Incredibly useful when you need something fast.

Well, to me it sounds like you're due to get some better luck. This is looking more and more all the time like it will be an excellent, small, and lightweight host.

lol, what would you need to make it waterproof to a foot for? I mean does this waterproofing mean it'll be splash proof? Or do you plan on making it waterproof for say... scuba diving?

Sounds good though :D

Why does anyone need a water proof laser at all to begin with? Why not...that's what I say.

Well, water proof enough to take it into your swimming pool or what not. Dust proof, splash proof, water proof...call it what you want. It will go way past a foot, if I still had the original lense. I still need to do some testing as to how deep it will go before it will start to leak, but I can't do anything untill I get a new lense of the proper size. The pocket mini lense is just a little to small so the seal on the o-ring isn't that good.

Still the quality of this host simply amazes me for the price.

Also...to be completely honest, you could easily do away with the lense and make the Heat Sink just a little bit longer. Then the focusing ring can be put on and the end look of the laser will be similar to the pocket mini build.

Well, to me it sounds like you're due to get some better luck. This is looking more and more all the time like it will be an excellent, small, and lightweight host.
Thanks...I really do like it and I hope that other people will venture out and make their own too. I of course will help out as much as I can.:)

I am running a test to see how well it is sealed. 1 foot under water, for 1.5 hours. I am honestly not sure how this will turn out, due to the new lense being a little bit too small.

So far....it's been submerged for over 30 min and it's doing just fine.:)

TEST IS DONE.....100% NO LEAKING FOR 1.5 HOURS AT 1 FOOT DEEP.!!!!:):):) These results look very promising to me.

Once I replace the lens I will do a better test..
