The sticker on laser is mentioning LP808. The BTB labels are accurate enough to know that this is a 808nm laser.
You should start with the usual 660nm red laser. The IR laser is much more dangerous because the dot is almost invisible and weakist but that is an illusion. It still pack 100mW output. Enough to burn your eyes and you don't even know it.

Probably is a true 650/658/660nm laser then, if you can take a picture of the spot or beam we can tell for sure.

A 100mW red wouldn't be so dim. I am thinking it is IR. my 100mW red causes some flare around the dot on camera.

Sigh.
Have any of you noobs even seen 808nm before?
100mW 808nm is visible but very dim.

Based on the pictures provided, it looks exactly like an 808nm laser should.
Nothing can be said about the power unless a power meter is used.

Edit:
Regular Alkaline 1.5V AAA batteries should be fine for that laser.
If you have a digital camcorder with "night mode" it makes IR lasers much more fun.

That is IR. That's exactly what IR will look like on a generic camera. A whitish magenta sorta color. Be very careful with this, I recommend getting IR glasses for this ASAP.

I have a couple IR pens that I made from green pointers. They barely do output anything (I don't have numbers, but electrical tape is impervious) and I still see dots from across my dorm. It is a visible deep red.

What I am looking at is on the lazerer sight it shows no dot visible for 200mw and faint dot for 500mw
Dragonlasers seems to say that you can see a feint red dot with 200mw
According to Warnlaser you see 7% of an 808 which would be visible with 100mw (and likely overspec).
With a single 10440 mine will hit 478mw and you can see the dot in full light but it is hard to spot from about 20' away.
Lit off a few matches and I definately don't see any kind of beam whatsoever. Maybe in pitch black with alot of fog but I don't feel like setting off my smoke detectors to try.
I've got nothing to go off of for an 808nm other than the one I have and the info. I've read.
Would have to take a pic of my dot to see what it shows up like in a camera because it is definately a deep red and not that purplish whiter dot that is in the photo.

With a 650nm 106mw unit I can easily see the beem with smoke.

Yah, that is definitely 808nm NIR. You did NOT get red 650nm pointer, but an infrared eye hazard. Better batteries won't make a difference.

The only thing that is throwing me is that he said he can see a red beam with match smoke.

I've never had a powerful 808, but I can see 1mW of 848nm from my laser mouse. It has to be very dark and my eyes fully adjusted and on a white surface close up, but I can see it.
