I decided this 589 module I bought deserved a special housing, After assembling the Module into the PGL housing I received I was not satisfied, the head is fully threaded all the way through and the module sits loosely against the threads with only a brass retaining ring to keep it from sliding around,

My module likes it cool so I had a 70mm alloy bar on my desk and decided it was perfect, after bringing it down considerably and very carefully boring out just under 26mm the module pressed in with a little force, it cannot have been better no set screw or thermal paste needed,

Funny enough same with the battery tube the tolerance is so spot on that the bat will eventually drop out with a pop of compressed air, threads turned out very good also considering I've only done them 5-6 times.

I'm not sure why there isn't more custom 589 builds around to me it was just like any other laser, NOT BRAGGING but it wasn't that difficult although Adam
From Dragon Lasers was positive I wouldn't be able to install it in the PGL housing witch took me 5 min and then congratulated me and said what a skill and is yet to see the custom built.

He also informed me that most of the 589 lasers they have been selling for 15years could be better aligned, there workers have been using outdated techniques and alignment with collimation lens and IR filter are not always spot on.

There is one more thing left to do on this build, I'm still waiting on some fibre optic cable so I can drill a small hole just above the switch for the PCB led to aluminate through, I'll add some pics when this is done,

Thanks!

Really nice work---excellent functional design---very clean look---beautiful polish job!

I like the module/housing tight interference press fit aspect.

Great pictures

That's a beautiful host that you've machined there, good job, very impressive!
You've definitely got the best dressed 589nm around, that's for sure.

Can't wait to see some beautiful golden yellow beams being emited from that shiny beast!

One question for you, does that front piece press fit into the host?

Thanks buddy!
Yep I misjudged the space I needed for the collimating lens and therefore added a pressfit to the original copper module I made and also a top cap, it's also done so spot on that it just sits in the host no thread no nothing and it's tight, it can also be adjusted by pushing the centre in or out, Turned out better than I expected!

Thanks Alaskan!

I'm afraid I cannot help in that department, I can say it's not as tight as a 532 dpss laser but it's not far off either,

I can't help with calculations sorry!

I'm using its original collimation lens so it should be very similar to most PGL or Spartans NO!
