Astral Driver - Buck, Boost, & Buck-Boost

Yes jnrpop,

when i ran it using 2x li-ion battery (8.4Vin), i got about 4.5~4.7A output at max pot

Those high Vf readings at constant current would be useful for running several diodes in series, thus clamping the current used on all of them. That would be the best way to drive several laser diodes of the same type with a single driver.

UPDATE!

The SuperDrive LV has been completed!

This is using a lower powered IC than the original design (the intended IC is out of stock unfortunately)
The price is also reduced from $24.9/pc to $19.9/pc
I'm able to get 3A from 3.9-4.0Vin when boosting

Test method:
  • Using 1x Li-Ion battery at 4.1Vin (at the end of the test, the battery has 3.9V left)
  • Current measured as a voltage across 0.1Ω resistor
  • Using 10x probe to multiply voltage across 0.1Ω by factor of 10
  • Driver not heatsinked

Boosting:

Iout 2A @ 4.5Vf

Iout 2.4A @ 4.8Vf

Iout 1.9A @ 6.3Vf (MaxPot, current capped by max Vout)

That is a nice boost driver, astralist. Right now I have no use for it, but I might later on if you don't sell out completely. :D

Had some time today to set-up my test bench and run one of the new Superdrive LV´s.

Using a fresh NUBM07E & 4.1V in (1x 18650)

@ min Pot = 1.7A

attachment.php

@ max Pot = 2.5A

Either side of these POT settings the driver would fall out of regulation.

Interesting to know anyone else´s results.

Thanks Astralist, will do a few more tests soon

Thanks for the information, Corey. I was under the impression you could get 3 amps out while boosting at the voltage you applied. How hot did the driver get at 2.5 amps?

Astral buck driver? Really? :D.
I know you. I saw in the ebay store.
Astral boost is nice for a BDR-209 my friend is said

You have a very good NUBM07E there,
Nearly 5w At just under 2.6a I would usually set them at 4a

I did purchase one of these boost drivers, I think I will use it with a NDB7875 at 2.4a
My plan was a small NDB7675 build at 2.6a for a huge wavelength shift, anyway!

Thats 2.5A @ 4.6v BBB, not power output unfortunately as that would be beyond efficient if so :D

Gooood to see you posting though  really enjoyed your work lately!
