Glad to see it working ArcticDude. :) Could you image how good it would look if someone got it SLS printed. Looking forward to seeing the end product.

I really concider this option also.. Because there's really good 3D printing service with high quality EOS EOSINT P 395 - printer here at my home town..

They can print:
  • Aluminum AlSi12
  • Steel 1.2709
  • Stainless steel 1.4404
  • Titanium TiAl6V4
  • inconel 625
  • inconel 718
  • Stainless steel 17-4PH
  • invar(1.3912)

    And Nylon PA3200GF

BUT, price would be at least double with Nylon..

..And Aluminium... Imagine price and multiply it 10000x

Yes, SLS is more expensive. :( But the quality is amazing. I have had specialist corner pieces made for one of my tesseract desk lights. Far superior to that of FDM/FFF printing. I used 3D Hubs for mine.
It is a shame really, it does make the price rather extortionate for a laser host. I'm sure it will still look very good when complete.

Yep, that is reason why I ended up PETG..

- Very durable, it’s more flexible than PLA or ABS
- It has very low shrinkage
- Highly impact resistant material
- Can take quite much heat before losing mechanical strenght
- It has a great chemical resistance, along with alkali, acid and water resistance
- Cheap

Good, your host should last quite nicely. :) How is printing with PETG compared to that of PLA?

Much slower and higher temperature 235C-240C while printing.. You can heat your apartment while printing stuff

I just read closer, they can print using molten aluminum? Or is it plastic with a lot of aluminum in it?

I think material sheet says 89% Aluminum and 10-11% Silicon + 0.5% Mg 🤔

Just noticed that EOS M 400 has 1Kw laser on it!!
:lasergun:

EDIT:

Actually EOS AlSi10Mg printed objects have slightly better thermal conductivity than EN AW-2007 [AlCu4PbMgMn] Aluminum that I've lathed.

If some day I win in lottery, I know where I'm gonna fabricate my hosts :D

Really looking forward to see this laser doing color cycling. PETG is always translucent even though it's "black". :p
