Small correction, sorry I'm not trying to be anal but being able to use it in the rain or being able to submerse it to 100m would be water resistant or water resistant to 100m, water proof is different, there is basically no limitation as to how deep you could go without the seals breaking and letting water in, the water pressure cracking the lens would be a different rating..Waterproof, and waterproof to 100 meters are entirely different requirements in my mind.
Waterproof is a nice feature if you want to use a laser in the rain. Lasers look very attractive on a foggy/rainy day, so it's nice to have at least one that you can take out without worrying about wetness and moisture.
But waterproof in the sense of being submersible, has a very very very limited use case - presumably focussed on divers who want to point to things while under water. I wonder if even 5 people in this hobby community have ever actually used a laser for that?
In my mind, once you have one laser that is "rain proof", the whole water resistance issue probably becomes a non-issue for 99% of us.
And it would be completely reasonable to have a 2W 445nm down deep, what if you have to battle dr.evils laser armed sharks? ;-)
