Anyone else notice that Nichia's 445 spec sheet got a power boost last month?






Are we sure that that is the right diode, it says 9.0mm in the spec sheet :thinking:

Nope, but it's the closest we have in terms of Nichia releasing a datasheet for our 445s. I think the presumption has been that it's the correct diode, but that KasEO had the 5.6mm case substituted (which I presume you can do when you're ordering 8 gajillion diodes at once)
 
Very interesting, thanks for posting the link. I notice that this version does not have a case pin and has some sort of static protection built in.

Look at me, selectively paying attention only to power. What a rookie move!

Given that KasEO doesn't use the case pin, it wouldn't shock me to see our 445s lose this feature in the future.
 
If these are rated higher than the 5.6mm we use, we can probably push them to 3W!

Good observation, unless these are basically the same as we currently use and they have realized over time that they can be pushed a bit harder.
 
So either they updated their info on the diodes that we currently are using because of our experimenting with them OR they have a new really powerful 445 diode.

Seeing as they're claiming 1.6W optical output with 1.7A current, my guess is that they're essentially the same.

9mm diode shouldn't be a problem. Pontiacg5 makes 9mm Aixiz replacement modules. We could use the existing heatsinks made for the standard Aixiz module.
 
divergence seems to be even worse than 5.6mm ones :thinking:

Actually, it's better.

The old ones were 12x40.

These new ones are 14x44.

IE, the ratio of divergence of one axis to the other is closer to 1.

well but it's not much of a difference anyway :D

and with these prices for small quantities I think it's better to stick with
the current 5.6mm diodes :yh:
