Antivirus for Win7

yeah xD I've got to admit it took me two or three month of reading EVERYWHERE that avira was beating kaspersky and nod before switching, so we still have a long work eh iskor?

(I'll make you all get Opera and Avira, there's no escape)

LOL....I still don't use Opera :) To be honest I still use IE.

I have been using Avira for over 1.5 years now. I actually paid for the full blown version because of how good it is. Plus I wanted to help support a company that is really trying their best to make a great Anti-Virus program. I recommend it to everyone I know. :)

Eset Smart Security is my choice on Win7, but as has been said already, everyone will swear that theirs is better than the rest and point you to numerous independant tests that prove it...sort of...kind of!

Ya pays ya money (Or load ya crack) and take ya chances.

I've told you a hundred times, Opera is also free... xDDDDDD

Eset picks up about 97.2% Of viruses
Avira picks up about 99.4% Of viruses

How is Eset better than the rest? :):):)

I know...I know

You quote my post but obviously neglected to read it....tut tut tut!

I read it. It says that independant test prove it...sort of...kind of.
You sounded confused, so I tried to clear it up for you:):)

I'm really just messing around...(joking with you)

The truth is, It's rather hard to argue against the facts.

A test was done recently with all virus scanners including free and the ones that cost money. The test was to see which one was able to pick up and cure the most viruses.....lets just say that Avira got second place with picking up 98.7%. Believe it or not, but Norton Anti-virus got first place.

However, you have to pay to get Norton...and Avira is Free and Has been proven to be the best at detecting viruses out of all of the free virus scanners.
Here is a link for where you can download it.

FYI: AVG got 8 place. AVAST didn't even place in the top 10!!![/size]
2009 anti-virus software detection placement (iNDEPENDENT TEST)

1.) Norton Internet Security 2009
2.) Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition
3.) McAfee VirusScan Plus
4.) Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal
5.) Panda Antivirus Pro 2009
6.) BitDefender Antivirus Plus
7.) Eset Nod32
8.) AVG Anti-Malware
9.) G Data AntiVirusKit (AVK)
10.) F-PROT Antivirus

Told you Norton 2009 was a beast : ) and it only cost 25$ like common who cant pay 25$ for some of the best software with definitions updated hourly : )
Funny tho how i have never heard of Avira and i knew Avast wasn't that good but hey glad we got physical facts on this stuff. But what every you do Stay away from McAfee It wants to take over your system.....
But basicly it all comes down to what you do with your computer.... if your a hard core pirate then your going to need the best and zonealarm to keep thos keygens from talking back to the owner. if you love your porn your going to need the best to keep thos cookies from communication back to the host to tell them what you like.... and if your a hard core laser enthusiast you need the best so your wife can block your credit card from being used online to fund your hobby : )

I do recall you saying this and I did disagree with you, but I was basing that off of the old Norton. Not the 2009 version. I haven't had the chance to test that one out yet, but from the looks of it, they improved it a lot. :)

Me: none. I use a combination of common sense, windows' own security model, Chrome or firefox, limited user permissions, all users sitting behind a firewall, and a simple-to-reinstall system for all machines in my domain, should one be compromised. I might occasionally also sweep through the server looking for dodgy files, but I haven't seen any so far. As for keygens or similar with viruses, I avoid them wherever possible, but for the rest I'd upload them to an online scanner if I don't trust it. It keeps my machine running so much faster, compared to daily scans, and saves a subscription fee. The only real risk I really face here is my own stupidity (running something as an administrator when I shouldn't), or a major vulnerability in a browser causing it to run code.

:crackup:LoL,

When I 1st saw Dave's starter (44 posts ago, just yesterday), I knew this thread would turn into this!

:fightin:

It never fails. Talking software is like talking politics or religion. This can go on until Windows 8 is released, ya know.

to true : ) 44 post in under 2 days that has to be some type of record :P got to love software .... at lest we don't have the mac guys on this form that would get real bad real fast :P

i knew Avast wasn't that good but hey glad we got physical facts on this stuff.

Look at it this way, The difference between 1st place and 7th place is ~2%. I'm sure avast would be in the top 15 (it is level 1 and 2 check marked, same as Nortons etc..) so it would be a matter of ~4% difference between 1st place. BTW I said IMO (in my opinion) that Avast is better. I had no way of proving it other then the reviews and certifications that I provided in my previous post. I know 4% is alot but hey, I had no clue about this test. Also who even said avast was tested??

Funny enough I'm actually downloading Avira atm I'm really curious, I have never heard of this before! -Adrian

EDIT: funny fact.. from download.com

AVG is also on Download dot Coms front home page.

You will like Avira. Also...check out the scanner's name when you get it loaded. :)
