Yeah i get lucky pretty often BUT these aren't all the diodes i have had. I have had less efficient ones like yourself aswell. And i also get a random dead diode sometimes..

Hey Offroad,

Really nice work. Is there a special technique for getting the GITD epoxy into the grooves cleanly, without making a mess?

I know Moh used to use acetone to wipe off the excess epoxy when he made his GITD focus rings, but I don't know if you used a similar technique here.

What's the trick to it?

Hello andrew,

I have gotten this question earlier via pm but it is a very good question.

For this i mix fast drying epoxy and the GITD powder. The epoxy then dries within 1 minute.

I use a toothpick to transfer the epoxy into the grooves there is no real trick to it. I just make sure i dont put too much epoxy in the grooves and then smeer it out!

I do it one groove at a time. And yes sometimes i fail. Then i redo it. :beer:

Ahh, a toothpick. Awesome. I figured you had to do them one at a time, but if the epoxy dries in 1 minute, it's probably not that bad.

I'd like to try this on a kryton that I stripped and hand-polished, as it's hard to polish/clean inside the grooves, so they don't look that great. This will cover them nicely.

Here are some pictures of how i place the driver.

The ground for the driver comes from the hosts head. Where i drill a small hole and solder a ground lead in.

Hey wannaburnstuff. I did not strip of the annodizing. I only stripped it of on area's that need to contact. Like the switch, pill, inner tube threads. I like this finishing and with the annodizing mostly still there is protects the alluminum very well.

Also what parts would you send? (host, diode, driver, copper, lens, contact, board? etc.)

Keep in mind that shipping also stacks up. :beer:

Ooooh awesome build. Would it be possible to ship the head separately from the body, or even better, ship the diode separately? (stupid customs).

Yes that would be possible. But i would use another type of shipping. Via letter post.. And you would need to solder the leads together yourself. Then screw the head on. Rest i can do for you.
